"Rider down" No one like to hear that, but it is a reality in our world. We push the limits of our bodies and bikes... sometimes too far. I fell prey to the last 30 feet of "The Chute" as they call it. This little section of downhill is right at the end of the "Fullerton Loop" at the base of the dam right before the golf course parking lot. Steep, hard-packed with ruts, and a generous sprinkling of loose on top. It is not a hill to use too much brake on... well, I did. I was riding too fast, without lights, and with a little too much ego. I slid into a rut and went down hard on my left elbow and pulled my arm around the back of me... POP! Dino, Ricky, and CC got me to St. Jude ER and stayed with me until they brought me and my bike home. Thanks again to all who helped me...

Update: I had an MRI on my shoulder Thursday and will be waiting to see if I'll need surgery to repair the damage (hopefully not). I'll keep this updated... I can't do much else!:(

Whatever happens... you will be missed by the Tribe. I know that you will be back better than ever... but, perhaps a little wiser... maybe?

That's a real bummer to say the least.

The chute and STR riders don't get along too well. Wasn't that where Keith jacked his arm too?

    The chute is evil.

Update 08.16.07: Reviewed the MRI with the doctor today. There is a small chip of the lower part of my shoulder socket that might re-attach itself. The MRI was taken two weeks ago and he wants to see me in two weeks to see if it has re-attached. If so, I will begin therapy and be back on the trail soon... If it hasn't, surgery to re-attach, then therapy. This little piece is what keeps the humerous from dis-locating on it's own. I'm hopeful that it will re-attach by itself. Until then, I'll just keep taking pictures!:bang:

My advice is to take some vicodin and plan your come-back ride - delusions of grandeur are optional.8)

I've got lots of Vicodin... and the doc did say "if it's still not healed we can re-attach it with hardware later" hmmm, very tempting... Maybe some ducktape and Ace bandages...

Ok, I just got back from the shoulder specialist. Partial tear on my inner bicep, the chip on my shoulder is healing by itself (no pun intended), my rotator cuff is fine, and best of all, NO surgery!!! Yeah!!! Just 6 to 12 weeks of PT and I'll be back on the trail! Oh crap, wait, that's... er... um... 3 months!!! Aaaaahhhhh... I'll maybe make it 2 weeks.:(

Oh well, looks like I'll be throwing back a few to get into that spandex CC likes![IMG]

Not really... goin' for a ride tonight... shhhh![-X

Good news mate! Don't get back on too soon incase you do more damage. My next X-ray is on Wednesday so I'll find out how many more weeks of immobility I'll have!

I feel for ya, Barry. I spent nearly four months on the sidelines this year with my busted c-bone and subsequent surgery in late January. I'm just now getting to the point where i'm comfortable riding more aggressive terrain. I can only offer the obvious advice: be patient; channel your energy into other, safer activities; take your rehab seriously; don't cut any corners; and don't get back on the horse too quickly. I've made that mistake in the past, and I'm still paying for it to this very day.

Good times hanging out with you after last Thursday's Loop ride. Next round is on me.

Hey all, well the physical therapy started yesterday. The PT said I was in good shape and would probably be able to get back to semi-normal life within 6 weeks... I said 2 weeks is within 6 weeks, can I ride in two weeks? "NO", but maybe in six weeks we'll talk about what kind of riding you are thinking about. My shoulder feels so much better now that I can move it around. I still have restrictions on how far in certain directions, but no brace! The chip has almost completely reattached. I am doing exercises to strengthen my rotator cuff first, then my shoulder as a whole. Look out Arnold! My bicep tendon got it the worst. It is what the PT is monitoring closely. I will still be out there lurking with the camera until I get back on my bike, then the helmet cam comes out. Thanks again to everybody that has been hanging back to help Christian get around safely. It means the world to both of us. I'll keep the updates coming!

Nice! It's been awesome seeing you during and after fully rides but would be even better riding alongside you. Any progress is excellent progress. Hope to see you back out soon. :)
