So I'm making my way back up the Del Cerro fire road, and I come up on the fire road drop...low and behold I see a guy with his 2-3 year old son climbing up the middle of that drop...Of course I warn him that some DH'er can come out of nowhere without a warning...He just shrugged me off and said, "It's okay buddy...we're fine!"...So I'm watching this guy and his son struggling to make it to the top, and finally, he gives up, grabs his son, and the two of them make their way up the curved trail on the left, leading to the top...not TWO seconds later, a group of 5-6 riders come flying off the drop...the first guy off the drop starts yelling out "TRAFFIC!!!!!"...and I start yelling out "HIKERS!!!!"....you wouldn't believe the evasive maneuvering by those riders behind the leader...long story short, not one rider ate it, the father and son were okay, but a bit shaken and dusty...and the lesson here is, if you and your son are feeling adventurous and decide to climb up small cliffs...listen to the fellow MTB'er when he warns you of danger...BECAUSE POPS, TO YOU ITS JUST A FUN LITTLE CLIFF FOR YOU AND YOUR SON TO PLAY AND CLIMB ON...BUT TO SOME OF US, ITS OUR HUCKING LIFESTYLE!!!!!!!!!!

On another note, if we want to keep OUR playground open we need to take a peek over the edge the first time. If they would have taken out the hikers it would be the fault of the DH guy. Sorry but that's just the way it is when you are on a multi use trail.

Granted you did the right thing but the guys on the bikes didn't. That right there is why they are trying their best to ban bikes from that spot. Take out some kid and watch how fast it will happen.

Rant off,,,,,, So when is the next STR ride there?

I almost ran over some hikers who were coming up slalom. It was during the "S" turn section of the trail and I barely avoided hitting them thanks to quick side stepping by those two guys and my juicy sevens. When I got to the bottom I saw another rider and told him. The rider said he told the hikers that slalom gets a lot of fast downhill traffic but I guess they shrugged off his warning and said that they do it all the time.

Weird that the father and son were climbing up the middle of that thing, there's a place to walk it on the left side. Maybe that's why the drop has started to erode?

We always have to remember to ride in control enough so that we're able to avoid collisions when these encounters happen.

this is why i tell my groop to LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP!also if your gonna stay and play at the spot, use a spotter, someone to look for uphillers.like dave said, hit the kid its over.yes frank i'd forgotten about the d!ckheads that yelled at franky and myself as we checked out last weeks crash seen, they used the old forgotten HEY HEY as they flewed past us.man those doods wer fast!hunh frank?
