Had a great day with Julius Syvanen, our instructor, along with fellow STR rider Desmond ([email protected]). We did 2 shuttle runs, with the 1st one concentrating on turns (especially berm turns) and the 2nd one on technical skills (drops, rock gardens, jumps, etc.). The whole session took over 4 hours.

I found out quickly I stink on berm turns and had few crashes. No wonder I can't keep up with my riding partners :( Anyway, as others mentioned above, Julius is a great instructor, and will quickly figure out your problems, and suggest options for you to fix problems. It was unreal to see how fast Julius goes through some of the sections!

I should have taken more pictures/videos, but was too busy riding/learning. The videos are from the 2nd part of the clinic, where he shows us how to go through the rock gardens using the correct line setting up a berm turn to a little steep drop at the end of the turn.

I would highly recommend his clinic to anyone interested in becoming a better rider. Definitely worth the drive and $$$. He can obviously adapt the clinic to suit your level and goals. I intend to practice the skills I learned, and go back to him for future sessions.

LOL, I think I had the toughest time with the berms too...considering how much time we spent on the berms. I would be good for the 1 & 2 and then make friends with the brush on the 3rd. It was hard to trust and totally throw the body into the turn!

Hey, you're in Whittier! I'll come and help you! We'll build in the middle of the night so she won't know  You must have a BIG backyard.

There are some berms in Rattlesnake at Turnbull, but not nearly as nice as those in Poway.

    clinic

Took the class with Julius a couple weekends ago. Very helpful. Great teacher. Its already making a huge difference in my riding. Definitely going to take more classes. I would suggest anybody that is not a pro rider to take it. You will benefit from it. Fun day.

Took the DH clinic with julius last sunday in san diego. Julius is great to work with, plus I got to know a new trail in san diego. His feedback is very helpful, now all I have to do is practice everything several times so I make everything I learned a reaction so I don't have too think about doing it. Also reinforced my opinion that building a bigger bike would help.

I should also chime in - a few of us also took Julius' class a few weekends ago, and had a great time. The cornering portions were an eye opener, the huge difference between simply making a corner and carrying real speed through it was amazing.

Julius is clear, patient, and watching him fly through stuff is great fun (as is laughing at your friends' relatively rough attempts ...)

Got to thank Julius for the time spent, as well - we went well over the expected time range (on the trails from about 9:30 - 2:30).

    Highly recommended!

Thanks for the feed backs - will be in his class in two weeks. Spots are still available for anyone who is thinking about taking it (xc not dh). Mike oughta be very happy about the cornering technique! :)

Another bump for Julius' clinic! It was my 2nd time taking it, and he was very helpful. Take his clinic if you can, because he will make you into a better rider!

mike, let me know if you get something set up and need more people.
I'd be interested in taking the clinic.
