Ride Report DB's Canadian Adventure...

Ahhhh, grasshopper Dino...

I am truely glad that you have found that there's more to life than mountain biking .... although if you ever tell anyone I said that, I'll kill you!!!

Have fun and have a safe trip back....

A-Line...

A-Line is (without a doubt) the most famous trail in the world. And with good reason.
It simply has it all. For starters, how many trails "begin" with a ladder jump? Sprinkle in dozens of twists, turns, roots, rocks drops, more drops, and you've got yourself one hell of a trail. Fortunately for us, that is "LITERALLY" the beginning.

Two things set A-Line apart from all the rest.
1) Jumps. There must be 100 jumps on this one trail. Some you can't even see. Thankfully, most jumps are marked (on each side) with mini-sprinkler flags. Step-up's, step-downs, table tops, lippy jumps, drops, gap jumps, ladders, rock drops- you name it- this trail has it! To say these jumps are in "manicured" condition is putting it mildly. They are perfect! The coolest thing about many of these jumps: multiple options (with regard to how high you want to fly).
2) Speed. I could not believe how fast I flew down that trail. A-Line "begs" you to go fast. The berms are designed to slingshot you into the next straight away. To keep ya' going fast, some berms have cinder blocks buried into the ground. How cool is that?

I love this trail

A-Line Drop...

Looks can be deceiving.... It's ugly!

Another angle...

One more...

As I said before, many of the A-Line jumps give the rider a few options on how high they want to fly.
This jump is different in that it consisted of one main jump (left) and (2) extra credit options!
I took the middle one!

My heart races every time I see this picture!
Went off the jump MUCH faster than I had anticipated. Landed at the end of first group of stones. Almost went OTB! I technically landed it.... Came to a stop with both feet on the ground!!! #-o

Still not enought pics:protest:

I need more pics of Aline maybe it will jar the memory, and I might remember more then the beginning.

Welcome back, Dino! Awesome pics of Vancouver and Whistler........look forward to seeing more! After seeing yours, Carla's and Stephie's pics, I'm sold on going to gravity camp next year :bang:

The BIG drop (not my pic)

For some reason, this simple drop FREAKED-ME-OUT more than any single feature at the entire park! 8-[

First off, you have to slow down when you make the right turn. Second, you have to negotiate a root or two. Third, one must straighten the bike. Four, you are 20 feet in the air. Five, one can not see any part of the landing. Six, if ya' shoot off to the right/left, you are screwed! Seven, the landing area is not perfectly straight (it curves a bit)! I am literally sweating just thinking about it! Did I roll it? Yeah! Would I like to go back next year and attack it? Not sure... This (seemingly) simple feature freaks me out!!!

A few friends I met along the way...

Damm you hit a lot of the trails.

Is that last drop pic the one you can see from the Lift going up?

How did you like Devils Club? That was trip, I had no idea an just went on it. I was trying to avoid the run with lots of ladders#-o

A few more...

This dude was WAY cool! First time I saw him, he had reached MACH 5 at The SlopeStyle Park. It's one thing to get "AIR"- Clearing table tops, doing it seated is something entirely different!
What impressed me MOST about him was how quickly he snapped berms/corners. It was unbelievable! Second time I spoke with him was at The GLC. Apparently, he and I share a friend. Small world! :-k Note: Not my pic...

While I consider A-Line to be my "favorite" trail, I would have to say NINJA COUGAR is a VERY close second. As many people already know, if I ever decide to race again, it will be Dual Slalom. I can't think of a single trail that I would rather practice on! The most memorable features of this trail are : 1) The dozens of super quick turns 2) narrow turning between trees 3) Berm after berm after quick and flowy berm. If the trail was 1/2 as long as A-Line, it WOULD be my favorite!

Picture a trail that links berm after berm after berm. Believe me when I tell you- There is indeed such a trail. It's name is Ninja Cougar. Not my pic...

DB, how was the Rocky Mountain?

* With regard to the Rocky Mountain Flatline...
I was VERY MUCH impressed with the way the bike handled, soaked-up the bumps and performed in the air etc. Never did it feel like a SLUGGISH "DH" bike. As strange as it may sound, the bike felt nimble *AND* stable!!! I am sure the super-low center of gravity had something to do with it! I love the idea of the adjustable rear travel (185-216mm). Super fun bike! Highly recommended.

Yeah Dino,
Ninja Cougar was a blast. For those who are not familular its the trail in Season with all the quick switchbacks but the sign they show say Karate Monkey but its not Karate Monkey(at least anymore) its Ninja Cougar.

Dino what trail is the ladder one?

Same thing for me Dino. The first time I did Schleyer when we were up there, I balked twice at going off that damn ladder! Once I did it though, it felt so good!!

Schleyer = one of the best on the mountain, IMHO. Also, Fatcrobat. Wow! That was a huge challenge...next time, it's yours :)

You can indeed see it from the chairlift!
For some reason... It freaks me out!

More pics later this evening!

<--- wipes a tear from her eye...beautiful montage of pics.

mfoga...first pic with the ladders looks like the skills area next to the Beginner ladder drops area. Second ladder pic looks like Old School (that little side off-shoot trail from A Line)

Dino I'm glad you enjoyed the trip up there. Did you get the chance to ride in North Van at all?

I'd have to say out of all the places I've visited Vancouver is still my favorite city (despite all the rain). I will definitely move back there some day, although the ultimate goal is to keep a place down here too that I can escape to in the winter!

Keep posting pics!
