RR: Cow Pie Slickrock

Cow Pie Slick Rock and Munds Wagon Trail, Sedona, AZ.

First off it must have rained pretty good last night in Sedona, some mud but mostly tacky trails.

Parked in town and road up Shelby Hill Road to Carousel, then dropped back down and rode out to Cow Pie Slick Rock Area. The slick rock area is huge and you could easily spend hours out there playing around. All sizes of drops and rolls…the drops I saw were all to flat…you can go BIG. The trial to Cow Pie and all the Munds stream crossings are blown out due to the rain. Munds has a dozen stream crossings so the trail had no flow. Between the mud and new exposed rocks few crossings were doable for me. It would be a much better ride in the fall and winter when there are fewer rains. After people ride this trail some more and rebuild some of the erosion the trail will rate a solid A. There are sections on Munds that you are riding in a slick rock stream…man it must be incredible during a flash flood…if you were in the wrong section you would be in deep do-do.

The first pic that was taken at Carousel that is Cow Pie Slickrock below.

Why is it called Cow Pie?

Question if you saw a trail sign (pictured below) that stated dangerous slick rock ahead what would you do? No hesitation for me because I am not a horse.

good stuff. cool pics. Sounds like another option for my trip to Sedona!

No Damfino would have me walking alot, from want I hear that is the toughest trail in Sedona. If we ever put a group ride together in Sedona I would do it.

Nice pics Dean. Did you ride Damfino?

No Geoladder, I do have a GPS but I do not take it with me much anymore. I use it only in areas that I do not know well.

Sweet pics.

Dean, do you Geoladder? You'd win every month.
