Ride Report Condor Peak Trail, San Gabriel Mts.

Nice pics dstepper! Looks like a pretty hardcore AM trail! :bang:

Yep it was a tough ride, I have done a couple out in Prescott (climbing West Spruce Mt. Trail) that I suffered more on, but this by far was the toughest local ride I have done.

Normally when I am suffering as much as this ride Jfsh is somewhere around.

If you didn't ride with us, don't listen to any of these folks. They're lying to you. They just want to keep this great ride and the single tracks to them selves. This was nothing but sweet single tracks and easy climbs the whole day. I highly recommend all those who didn't ride with us to schedule it again. Unfortunately I will be unavailable to join that day due to getting my hair done and all.

I did enjoy "riding" with everyone. Only got to know about half the people on the ride. I'm sure I'll forgot about half of your names by the time I ride with you again. Apparently I made such an impression with Dean that I got the top billing of "and friend" in his RR. Thanks Dean and Scott for leading us on such a great "ride". I'll never forget it or forgive you.:)

I haven't had time to figure how to post picts to STR yet. So in the mean time you can see mine here:

Look forward to riding will all of you again soon,
Ken

I love the Condor Peak Trail, unfortunately I hate the trailhead. I hike the trail about a year ago and my car was broken into. My work laptop, iPod, and cellphone were stolen. Boo. However I would love to ride the trail again. Up and down the Condor Peak Trail from Big Tujunga Rd.

Your route seems interesting. Great pictures.

Yeah! Hey! Have a hay day and let us know how it is!

I've done Condor Peak a few times, and think it is a great ride. I've only done it as an out and back. Climbing Condor Peak isn't too bad IMHO. Oh sure, a few HAB's, but nothing compared to what you guys went through.

For those of you not into the out and back approach, there is always Trail Canyon...

I agree it's not that bad. It is no walk in the park for sure. It is mile after mile of unrelenting uphill; a very rewarding climb nonetheless.

When I rode the trail I started out attempting the Trail Canyon route. I wanted to do a loop but couldn't find the trail after the falls. So I rode back to my vehicle and the rode up the Condor Peak trail. I didn't make it all the way to the top as I ran out of energy but made it almost to the top. I'd say I was a mile shy.

I don't know what you two mutants are thinking, climbing Condor Peak would be alot of HABing for me. If I was going up and I saw that one section in the pic I may have turned around and never gone back..

I guess I should take that as a compliment.

Jeff, please do...it was meant as one. Point is every time I think of hard rides I remember that sandfest we had up near Troy Meadows last year.

Thinking about Troy Meadows, could you keep let us know the week that area opens up, I would like to get in there before the Motos this year.

Is it OK to Highjack your own thread?

Sure thing. I always keep a close eye on when that area opens. When we were there it was the sandiest I had ever seen it. Hopefully next time it will be more firm. I will let you know.

BTW dean, thanks for helping my wife out with the book she was working on. It was a complete surprise to me. It turned out very cool. She said you helped her out a lot with matching up trips and pictures.

Cool slide show Dean. Next time I ride with you, I'll have to pay attention to who is riding should any of your fellow sufferfest friends decide to pay you back for this ride. Yikes! :)

I had no idea what I was getting into. I'm glad I made it alive.
But it was a pleasure to meet all of you and I thank Liz for saving my life with the last drop of water she had.
You guys rock!!!

Matt if I would have known, I was carrying a ton of extra water and brought half of it back.
