So since im in this new school, i used to have time until i got my first job. Well, this new school allows me to take college classes and not only get college credits, but they count for high school credits also. So i was thinking, since the 69+ pages of english packes every week sucked, that i would look into taking an english class at a junior college such as citrus Etc. My question, what college like this would you reccomend to take classes such as English, Math, History, and possibly a Language.(Duetsch Ja!)
Oh and im not worried about the cost of the classes, since my school pays for it

Oh and also, im around san dimas area so the closer the better. Im also thinking night classes possibly :-k.

Enlighten me, and who knows, we may be classmates

for those classes, they're all the same. Hit up Citrus for the first 2 years for the basics. I did

what was your class schedule like?
im somewhat limited, seeing that i work 22 hours per week, go to high school, and ill be throwing college in the mix

I was about to suggest you just take one class, for a bunch of reasons, but it appears you're already going to do that. You'll get better registration later on, as you're already a student for the next semester, and night classes weren't that hard to get compared to other schools I went to. Typically you can take a once a week class from 7-10pm I believe.

Beginning English classes that are once a week usually have you write a paper in class and then turn it in. Personally, I do not do well in that format. Be prepared for much more work than High School and for papers to get into the 10 page range; each one requiring 6-7 sources. General Education is a PITA. Do not overlook Summer school for easy grades, though. Usually significantly less work and much easier IMHO.

Find ya a good counselor at your JC and work towards the IGETC criteria or TAP certification. Makes life much easier when transferring to a UC or State School. Good luck!

Lemme know if you have more questions about college. I have one more year at UCSD and I transferred from Mt. SAC so I know wll the angles.

Try to get into the Honors program if your school has one; way better counselors and it looks great on your transfer application.

Well here's my plan.

I was hoping if i slowly started taking college classes now, i could take the easy elective classes for Hish school and then the college classes i take i get dual credits, killing two birds with one stone. Once i finish my General Education at whatever JC i choose to attend, I was thinking i wanted to transfer to a college with Mechanical Engineering, (i think)
Well im not sure if its Mechanical ENgineering, but what i would like to do is work for a Bicycle company, possibly Fox, or a suspension company designing things or stuff like that. Even designing bikes. I just want a Degree in something i can put towards a biking related job

then it's safe to say you'll be going to Cal Poly Pomona eventually. :?:

word. I go there... (grad in another year....)

to get ahead for that college. Get all of your calc out of the way,....

You can seriously DROP 1 year of class at CPP by getting 3 calc classes out of the way, which opens your engineering classes faster.

seriously. Get done with the math, and some easy transfer english classes and you can come out way ahead.

Also, take your AP classes if offered at your school. Saves you time at college.

Someone mentioned one of the claremont colleges? i forget which one...i also heard mentions of San Luis Obisbo

There is Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Cal Poly Pomona. Great schools, and sister schools. SLO is tad harder to get in there. BOTH are outstanding engineering schools.

Claremont schools are private and big $$$$. Harvey mudd is probably the best engineering school there. You need to be A) very smart B) great GPA C) Great SATs.

They are highly selective.

In the end..."IF YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO IT.... YOU CAN DO IT'

Oh dang i forgot Engineer peoples use alot of math #-o
Oh well im good at it. lol
Well, i cant really take AP classes, since all the packets of work are the same. the only AP thing i can do is turn in extra packets to get ahead and graduate earlier, but im thinking i should milk it and take it slow and take college classes since they pay for it

I dont know how other JC's compare but Chaffey is cake walk and much more enjoyable than highschool. The first english class (1A) is easy you just write a few papers, less than 6 pages each, and professors dont expect much from you. My favorite classes I've taken are the psychology and communication ones. oh and dont forget to use ratemyprofessors.com

Study hard and take the AP tests for the subject. It replaces college classes if you pass.

I said the same thing. Quickly realized I had underestimated the math at higher levels in college. Passed Calc 1 at Cal Poly and said forget this and left.

<--cal poly engineering dropout that went elsewhere

CSUF fo life!

Engineering or business at CSUF?

we always joke that most of our business dept is ex-engineers.

So before i get in over my head, what do i need to expect for taking a class?

So for english, would i expect going to class once a week, recieving a prompt, writing a paper? Or is there sitting in class and taking notes required?

History, Im assuming once a week, Notes, and worksheets?

Math, im guessing lots of math problems, and notes in class?

Criminal Justice (talk about switch of direction). Cal Poly doesn't have that as a major (they have it in sociology or something)

oh yeah, fu** Cal Poly and it's hills. eff em all

brandon, you could be out of Cal Poly in 3 years with classes taken while in h.s.

Ok... these have been my observations through my academic journey.

High school was cake. It was very dummed down, and honors classes were just more work. Thats it.

College... the General Ed stuff was high school level. Show up to class, UNDERSTAND the syllabus... do what is required to get the grade. Hardest part is time management.

English classes - write a few papers using different books and or arguments as a prompt. You should do fine. Read and write on the subject. Just think.

General ed is pretty cake.

Math. Pay attention, take copious notes. read the book until you get it. ASK QUESTIONS. No such thing as a dumb question!!! do all the work even if it isnt graded. learn it by doing it.

So... take good notes, understand the requirements, understand what EFFORT you need to put INTO the class to RECEIVE the grade you want.

Thats what im hoping, im was planning on getting as much as i could out of the waqy now, then ill be out quicker and making money faster. I was thinking being an intern somewhere may be a good idea, just gotta find the time for it not to mention somewhere willing :-s

For english, you're going to have to test in I believe. Not quite sure transcripts will work, but i could be wrong. Most people have to test for math/english so they know what class you can start off with, i.e. College English I, or basic english (think remedial classes). I forget the name of this test but everyone has to take it I *think*. Assuming you start at English I, you'll walk in and not know anyone, and as long as you can understand your teacher, you'll be fine. Junior college entry level college english is cake. At first you'll write a 3 page paper after a couple weeks. Then another a couple weeks later, then maybe a 5 page with 2 sources at the end of the semester.
