Went up Marshall yesterday. There were no closure signs in place and the gate was open. I did not go all the way up to Claremont loop, so I can not comment on it's status. I will say Marshall is in pretty bad shape with trees down and the water crossing either very sandy or good size drops. It is not impassable but as for shear joy of riding I would consider some place else.

Claremont (LA County) not to be confused with Clairemont (San Diego County).

Yes, still closed and according to the city of Claremonts website, it's expected to be closed for a few weeks. IMHO A major over reaction on the citys part!

Probably still access "The Loop" if you enter thru marshall canyon entrance.

I passed by the entrance yesterday, and the closed sign was still posted. There were, however, sixty cars or so in the parking lot...full of hikers. I chose to just keep riding up to Mt. Baldy Village. On my way back down, I saw a mountain biker ride right pass the closed sign into the park. I hope everyone realizes that we will have no recourse if they decide to close these parks to us permanently. Please, just wait it out. Ride somewhere that's open or ride the road for a week or so...it won't kill you.

I used to like it before the "Claremont Wilderness Park" days. I would ride or hike ( with my Rhodesian Ridgeback off his leash) and only see a couple other users, nowadays, the place is loaded with people...too bad, but still a fun place to ride...As far as wild life is concerned, add in black bears, mountain lions and Mojave green rattlesnakes, I have encountered all three in CWP and Marshall Canyon

I know of 4 different riders who are still riding CWP. I don't get it, it's a fire road climb and descent and you can do plenty of other stuff all around this place without going in. I like CWP as a training ride but I won't ride it if it's closed. I was told it was business as usual and there were folks riding and walking right by the signs. Even if the city is over reacting, it's their prerogative. The park is owned by the colleges and they can do as they like. Like banning mountain bikers.

Someone asking about Marshall Canyon was directed to this thread.

FYI- Marshall Canyon is open and you can ride Marshall Canyon without ever setting foot (or tire) into the CHWP.

So, to the person who asked about conditions at Marshall Canyon, and was directed here- Marshall is muddy right now, some puddles here and there, some fallen trees, but it's open, there are plenty of hikers and equestrians and bikers using it right now. If you go, expect to get wet/muddy, a little more than usual.

Few other riders that rode Marshall today spoke with the ranger and they were going to close it in the afternoon. Marshall is a mess, too many creek crossings, mud pits and damage from foot/bike and equestrian traffic. I would expect the park to be closed tomorrow.

The school parking lot was full when I rode through there with my road club. Lots of vehicles with racks on them and the lots were full. They grade this trail every year so I don't understand why they'd close it unless it was a safety issue. Any use of the trail would only improve it in my opinion. We need some natural terrain in here. It's so wrong to have nothing but buffed trails. A few ruts, drops, trees and rocks in the trail are exactly whats needed here.

its not that CWP is such a great place to ride, but rather that it links the neighboring canyons and trails. its hard to do a ride longer than 4 miles without intercepting it. for many of us, this is our local training/riding area. my alternative is to drive somewhere to ride.

also, i do not believe it is owned by the colleges.
