Chiquito/San Juan Shuttle Sun. 10/22

I've been wanting to do this one for a while now. This should be a good shuttle route. I'm thinking it's propably about 16 miles.

San Juan Trailhead at 8am??

I imagine to shuttle would take as much if not more time than riding?

Well last time we did Chiquito we climbed from the bottom of San Juan and I rode my Burner (big mistake). Shuttling from the top this will definately be a Pack/RFX ride

Basically instead of climbing from the bottom to get to Viejo Tie we would ride down from Blue Jay to VT, then hit Chiquita and end up at the Candy Store. So we would be shuttling from the Candy Store to Blue Jay.

16 mi's & 2300' of climbing does not seem hard to do a loop and avoid a shuttle but I'll defer to those that have done it before.

That reminds me of Rob when we last did that loop :lol: Boy did we all regret that decision! #-oChiquita would have been a lot more fun if we weren't all exchausted by the time we got to it.

Craig,

Don't do it. We did the Geoladders ride earlier this year and it's freakin' tough. Halfway up, I thought to myself, christ, who would climb this route. Lot's of loose rocks, if not loose, then lot's of rocks to climb over. It's not much fun going up. From the falls to the top, it's fairly easy compared to what you just came up. Combine that with going back down Chiquito again, it'll kick your ass. By the way, it's not all downhill from Blue Jay to the candy store on Chiquito. You still have to climb out from the falls.

The good news, going down kicks ass! I'd bring the RFX cause there are lots of rock obstacles to play around. There's also a log plank/jump going down. Park a car at the candy store and shuttle up is how I would do it or climb up San Juan. Going down, I'd take Viejo Tie to Chiquito. The top part of Chiquito is uneventful

Just checked geoladders and looks like I got this one backwards. How does go up San Juan Trail finish at Candy Store sound??? I want to go down chiquito, not up.

No, you read it right, but the geoladders elevation graph is backwards. You climb up from the Candy Store then you go down after the top.

Yeah, that is how I rode it the first time. Tuff ride. From Blue Jay to Candy store is great. I haven't ridden San Juan to candy store. That seems like it would be a good route as well.

I am going to have to shuffle my weekend around. I want to do this ride!

Yeah, the elevation profile is screwed up because the GPS data starts from the top and the directions start from the bottom. The creator probably used the San Juan - Chiquito data to create this route. Regardless, this route is best done as a shuttle.

If you are still feeling good when you get to the parking lot, you must ride San Juan loop starting from the North side of the parking lot. Geoladders describes it as Highly technical, I wouldn't go that far. The descent is fairly technical, 100% ridable and major fun. The extra 2.5 miles and 340' of ascent is completely worth the fun that you will have descending this trail.

Should I bring the Bullit or Tracer? I'm thinking Bullit.
