Where are the aid stations for the CC?

I just read the email that the Warriors sent out and it looks like there will only be one aid station for the Counting Coup: one at Maple and one at the base of HJ for the VQ. Is that correct?

    Are their additional water stations?

Yes Aid Station #1 is at the bottom of Motorway......Aid Station #2 is at the HJ parking lot.

You can drive up Trabucco Creek road to Holy Jim.....from there you have to hike.

You can also drive up from Blue Jay to West Horsethief or Trabucco via the Main Divide.

Most of the area we are riding in is closed to the public.

Yes.....you can pick other riders packets.

    As J said...

The best way would probably be to drive across Highway 74 (you'd be going East), turn left into Blue Jay and take that to a turnout/gate on the right hand side before you get to Blue Jay. You can 4x4 up Main Divide where you'll come to the turn off for Trabuco, continue down. You'll pass West Horsethief on your left, and eventually get over to Upper Holy Jim.

If you do, I'd say go early and stay most of the day. I for one don't usually like having to worry about passing/being passed by vehicles while on the fire road. It's fine, but when you are going all out on a climb it sucks to have to breath in exhaust fumes #-o

So, the other option would be to park at the Trabuco trailhead and just hike around. You can cheer on people getting to the top of Trabuco, on the last leg of their race!

Otherwise, bottom of Holy Jim, but note that it'll be packed!

    Be Careful!!!

Like Allison said...if you are driving across the main divide be careful!!!...your going to have riders coming at you head on and pretty tired at that point...that is also a long drive to see someone race by...Holy Jim and the the road out Trabuco are fun areas to cheer...at the finish line it's great to see the riders come across exhausted and have their friends and family there !!! And a refreshment is always deeply appreciated at the finish !!!

    Hey Sherry/Jason-

Quick clarification......I have a few friends coming in from Utah for the event....can I pick up their packets for them? They're getting in Friday and it'll likely be a little hectic for them to make it over to the shop.

    No biggie if not.

    Thanks!

According to what I have read, yes. But you may want them to call so there is a note of it.

    Ooh, good point!

Just note that the gate at the intersection of Main Divide is closed, so you would have to hike or ride. It is OPEN to bikes, though.

Anyone carpooling and have an extra spot? I am going to be at my grandpas right there like where you go over that hill on Imperial Highway. Then it turns into Cannon and you make a left on santiago and take that around.

My first time doing the CC and I have no idea on what to expect and I don't know anyone else doing it. :?:

If we choose to have bags at the aid stations, how easy is it to locate the bags once we arrive at the aid station?

    Thanks

You should've received an email with event info. i got mine yesterday.

With probably hundreds of bags there, it will be tough. Remember to put your name and the aid station you want the bag at.

Couldn't you drive up Skyline and Park at that clearing and then make your way over to Beek's?

Or has Skyline be closed off for emergency and support vehicles only?

Couldnt the warriors have 2 sets of bags. 1 for VQ and one for CC and then have the bags in a line with a tag on with your race number? Doesnt sound too hard to organise?

You can mark your bag with your name, number and event. Maybe they have time to sort it out, but I wouldn't be so sure. This is something that none of us has planned on but because of the closure to Maple Springs and that no one will be allowed to enter there.

How about someone from the Warriors stands in the Maple Car park with a fog horn and if anyone from the FS shows up he lets it rip whereby all the spectators and helpers scatter into the bushes and hide?

What should one expect when they get to an aid station and need to find their bag? Will there be a table or an area that the bags will be located? If so, will we need to ask where that area is or will it be indentifiable? I'm sure I can mark a bag so I could spot it quick enough if I know where to look. I'm just not sure what to expect. Last year I carried everything but the kitchen sink and this year I want to travel a little lighter.

    Thanks!
