Since there are quite a few of you on here that are also car oriented, or work in auto shops, i thought this would be a great place to ask!

I recently got a frame on ebay. It's in very good condition, except(theres always a catch, huh?) it has a bit of white paint overspray on the clearcoat. Seller said it was latex housepaint, but im starting to believe otherwise. It appears to me to be more like a spraypaint, or something.. Sorry, i dont know my paints very well.

Anyways, im looking for advice on a way to take it off without damaging the clearcoat or paintjob on the frame. I've tried TurtleWax brand 'Bug and Tar remover', and its done nothing. Any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated!

Also, the overspray has gotten onto the San Marco leather saddle as well. I sorta assumed that i was screwed on that, seeing as leather is alot more fragile, but if you can think of anything for that too, it would be great!

Try a little bit of acetone / laquer thinner on a rag and your fingernail , and see what that does . Make sure you try it on a spot that doesn't show , just incase it softens or screws up the factory paint . Is it alot of o/s or little bits here and there ? The only other option I can think of is colorsanding and buffing it , but leave that to someone that knows what they're doing . Lemme know how it goes .

I liked the spray, I thought it added to the character of the bike.I'm not kidding, I'd just leave it.

Try lighter fluid (naptha) first to see if that will get it off. It will not damage the paint at all. If that doesn't work then go with the acetone route, if the paint on the bike is a true clear coat or powder coat it shouldn't damage it. You can purchase a can of auto brake cleaner which is acetone in spray form. Don't let it sit on the clear coat or it will damage the finish. the idea is to spray the spots and immediately wipe it off with a rag. You may have to do this several times. Afterwards you may have to finish with soap and water to get the swirls and wipe marks off

Id spray the brake cleaner into a rag then wipe instead of spraying the frame... just to minimize contact

I liked the spray
Haha, yeah i know you liked it.. Thing is, its not even! I get anal about being symmetrical, and all that garbage.8-[

If it wont move, ill just deal. But i will try the brake cleaner thing, although now im a little scared to hurt my baby!

brandon, stip all the paint off and dip it in the ocean. YEAH. i agree with the brake cleaner. when i get over spray on the body of the ranger from painting the tubes or welds, i spray some brake cleaner and wipe it off, then wash really well, then apply wax.

Ok. Hey, question about wax while you mentioned it..

A friend of mine mentioned 'non-carnuba' TurtleWax. It appears that carnuba is a brazilian wax or something? Will this damage the frame if i do wax it with this?

No, it won't damage it but it will develop a build up. May attract/retain dust and dirt
