    That is an infection on a tree caused by eggs from bees ( wasps) it think. I forget the name.

    I remember being out at Aliso two weekends ago and a woman pointed it out to me and some friends. If it's the same thing, according to her, the "tumor" creates sort of a fake cocoon for the pupae and houses them until they reach maturity. They then bore a small hole into the "tumor" and fly out.

    I took that pic on the hiking trail at Waimea Falls in Hawaii. I think you guys are right about the tumor.


    ...could be a fruit though, I'm not sure.

    If that's what I think it is.... it's edible, but sour as hell.. but taste really good when mixed right as a juice :drunk:
