Can a slime tube be patched?

I have a slime tube that got a puncture too big to seal itself. Can I just throw a patch on it like a normal tube?

I tried a few times and it never worked for me.I think if you were able to keep the goop away from the patch till it throughly dried, it might work.

I've done it with no problem with tubes I've slimed myself as well as slime tubes

Well, I gave it a shot. I'll let you know how it goes. Turns out the tire picked up a nice little triangular piece of glass. It also had a second tiny hole that I patched. Probably could have let the slime get that one but what the heck, I had the tire off already.

Also, doesn't patching a slime tube defeat the purpose of the slime tube.

I haven't seen that kind of tube before, so I'll check it out. Have you used them?

:lol: Yeah, patching a slime tube does seem silly. But, the slime can only deal with punctures from things like thorns and whatnot. Nails, glass, etc. still let the air out. And, since we're low on funds right now, I don't want to buy another tube until I get paid after the 1st.

My experience with slime tubes are that they take care of punture type holes from thorns and nails but don't seal pinch flats. I've never gotten a flat on a slime tube with anything other than a pinch flat.

Well, so far so good. I patched it last night and checked it this evening. The tire was still quite firm. I'm riding tomorrow morning so we'll see how it all turns out. Fingers crossed and all that sh*t.

In case anyone is interested, the patch seems to have held. I rode the tire on Saturday at Marshall Cyn. Seemed to have just as much air on Sunday, as well. It's possible it has a very slow leak, but I'm not sure about that. Seems to have worked. So, for me, I'd say you *can* patch a slime tube as long as you clean the slime off and scuff it good and apply plenty of glue.:clap:

I've not had much luck using the newer quick peel-off self sticking patches for Slime tubes.
