Nice early start for another Bommer Canyon open access day. Started at Quail around 7:30 AM and it was overcast, and there was even some slight moisture in the air. It stayed overcast for the entire ride, no energy sucking Sun to speak of, so that was nice.
By the time I got to Cattle Crest some spandexy riders in "team" jersey's were just heading up (more on them later), so I waited about 5 minutes so I would not catch them on the fun downhill part of the trail. No need to worry, as my first attempt failed when I dropped the chain, so I had to hike back up a short way to restart.
Hiked/climbed up Rabibt Run and then back down. There was a rider coming down when I was going up, so i stopped off to the side of the trail so he would not have to slow down. When I got to the gnarly part at the end, he was off the bike surveying. Yeah, it is easier than it looks. Probably.
After that, up Fox Run and back down. That trail has been super sanitized from how it used to be. Still fun at the bottom but not nearly as challenging as it used to be. It is the easiest climb up out of the valley though.
Then over to Shady Canyon singletrack, where there were an unusual number of people hiking towards me. I don't usually see too many hiking that direction, but they were all pleasant with many thanking me for my bell.
After climbing out, it was over to East Fork for a downhill blast. Unfortunately, there were many hikers and one rider coming up, so I was not able to go very fast. Towards the end I was in full cruise mode riding pretty slow on the flat end of the trail and a Krazy Karen started screaming at me to slow down and called me an asshole. I mean, I was going very slow, had a bell ringing and still got yelled at, LOL. She looked exactly how most Krazy Karens look ... picture a fully vaxxed and boosted Kamala voting nutjob and you've got it. Probably drives an electric car too.
I just laughed at her and went on my way.
So, then it was up Ridge Route with the intention to ride it back down. About halfway up I realized I was not going to ride it down because there were just tons of hikers scattered about. Anyway, at one point I see the spandexy group of "team" riders from earlier coming down ... this trail is singletrack, but there is generally enough room to move to one side and two bikes can barely pass, so that's what I did for them. To a man, they all kept flying at full speed. WTF? I mean, uphill rider has the right of way, so at least slow down a little, LOL. I am usually nice about it since I don't care much for climbing anyway, but from now on I will not be moving over on that particular trail. Sometimes rules need to be demonstrated.
As I got to the top of Ridge Route, I saw a different group of about 5 riders starting down East Fork. I just laughed knowing they would encounter Krazy Karen.
Fun ride overall with some interesting moments. IRC does Red Rock and Bommer on the same day for some reason ... I guess it is probably overall good for thinning out the herds. I like both, so hate that I have to pick one or the other. Bommer is definitely more fun overall though.

Start of the first Cattle Crest downhill section, going the other way of course.

Beware! Krazy Karens on this trail.
