RR: Blackstar/Motorway Oct. 1st

The main group was me, Craig, Jeffry, Dell, Matt (diggs), Brandon (brad), Mark, Justin, Keith, Andrew, and of course Steve. SORRY but I forget the name of the dude on the trek fuel. We hooked up with Andy, Annie and their crew at the start of the blackstar climb but didn’t see them again.

The climb up Blackstar to beek's wasn't bad. We regrouped there and Craig snuck a rock into Steve's camelbak to slow that sucker down a bit. But apparently one month off the bike slowed him enough because he quickly joined the granny gear club on some of the first steep/loose climbs. We told him we had a present for him and showed him the rock. Got it on video too \\:D/.

We regrouped once more in the middle of the main divide climb. Andrew had broken a rear spoke moments before that but was able to adjust his wheel enough to be able to finish the ride. There were some walkers on the last few steep climbs before Motorway but we managed and regrouped once more at the start of the motorway. Steve had a flat halfway down the motorway and took a nice sliding crash after hitting the jump at the bottom :bang:.

Weather was nice to us all day, never got too hot or too cold. Props to brandon for tackling the ride on a 2:1 SS. Nice to finally ride with ya. It was cool meeting keith too, I look forward to seeing the pics you took. Thanks to everyone who came out and suffered with us .

I'll throw up some of my own photos after a nap.

Oh ya . . . I'm signing up for CC and not VQ this year.

Good ride today. It was good to get a Santa Ana's ride in now that the weather has cooled down a little. Perfect temps today.

I really started to feel guilty about putting that rock in Steve's pack after about 1/2 hr of climbing from Beek's. It was pretty funny though when he found it. Steve - your crash at the bottom of Motorway was awesome! It's always fun to crash for an audience eh?

Good call on Moreno's for the grub Dell. It hit the spot.

Good job guys, that it not a easy ride. Blackstar to Beeks is about all I care do on my Singlespeed...props to Justin and Brandon.

Good to see you guys today. Our original plan was to make it up to the peak, but we didn't make it up past Beek's cause my buddy was dying on the trail. While getting ready to start our ride, we heard something that sounded like a swarm of bees. When I looked up, I saw a bunch of riders coming towards me, it was pretty cool. I think Craig was leading the pack with is annoying I9's :D I'm just kidding Craig, I'm jealous that's all. Anyways, here are some photos of today's ride

Thanks for the sweet photos, Keith! Good to see you here. I grabbed some of your photos for the video I made. Check the first post of the thread.

Nice video!!
When I used to hike in the Welsh mountains we'd take it in turns with the backpack and there were always rocks sneaked in at swap over time - beware people!
I'll get my name down on the Joplin ride - that was pretty mental when I did it 1st time ever in the dark 8-[

 great video george loved the ending.I missed it I think I was riding up as you guys just told him about the rock.

I think that is the first time I've ever seen a photo that depicts how steep of an angle it is climbing . The one with Craig looking like he's climbing a wall. For those that haven't rode this, it really is that steep. How did you do that? (the angle)

Part of it was probably my luck in how it came out. Just stood near the side of the trail and tried to get the whole trail in the shot. Also cropped it and cut out a lot of the sky. This left the steep trail composing most of the photo which adds to the effect.

Nice Vid George!

I've watched that vid 5 times and I still laugh when Steve finds that rock in his Camelbak

I am so screwed the next time I ride with him.

C

Thanks for the video compliments, everyone! Did anybody catch the slow-mo of Mathew rubbing his nuts? He blames it on his shorts 'pinching' him.
