I picked my bike up from the shop mid-day Wednesday after taking it in for a brake issue. Since I was in the area, thought about Whiting & The Luge, but then redirected over to Black Star Canyon.
I rode up to Puhu Connector, which is a nice singletrack through the woods and a nice break from the fire road climb. Being mid-day, it was very warm if not hot. Almost at the exact moment I was passing Booby Trap on the climb, I heard a loud noise and stopped to check it out. Sure enough, a spoke had broken for no apparent reason. LOL. I can't remember the last time I rode my Hightower without some issue or another.
I wrapped the broken spoke around another, but decided not to continue the climb. I dropped into Booby Trap for a sweet downhill run. Booby Trap is as good as I have ever seen it in my 11 years of riding. Damn near perfect and I scored a PR. Someone is clearly doing some excellent trail work on it, so kudos to them.
After that, mostly fire road back until the Hidden Trail, which I was happy to set a PR on. I am getting comfortable with the super steep, loose part. Set a PR and still have plenty of time to gain. Then, just a fast fire road ride back to the car and hardly any people out there mid-week.
