I got out for a Sunday ride in Black Star Canyon. I took most of the singletracks up, and all of them down (from the Ball anyway). I started too late, and it was already hot at the bottom, but it was pleasant from about Hidden Ranch.
Someone has been hard at work cutting new singletrack trails all over the place up there, and props to them for the work. There are a couple of nice singletrack options on the way up that are much nicer than the constant fire road, and one that weaves through the Indian rock area and exits near the end of 3rd Monkey.
I enjoy all the downhill singletracks, particularly Booby Trap which is one of my favorites anywhere in OC. The last one that ends at the entrance to the falls is fun, but the super steep bit is gnarly. Still have not mastered that part.
