From an article that I read earlier there is a dinosaur display dating dinosaurs to 2384 BC.

    watching it.

edit: this early int he debate, it appears like the Ken Ham fella, who represents the "young earth" side of creationism that advocates a literal interpretation of the Bible, was chosen as an "easy" target. Creationism is not just about believing in a young earth. My measly 12 units in theology told me that the Bible is a literary piece and was subject to multiple translations and requires careful interpretation. Moving on.

Ken Ham was not chosen as an easy target...........he organized the event. His foundation actually paid Nye to travel there and debate with him.

So yeah....Ham is a total and complete idiot.

Faith and science are piled on the exact opposite ends of the same plane, when in fact they are not. Ideally, people should take the good they can get from each, and just roll with it.

Religion is faulted for many evils, agreed. But science has not been an innocent child either. What has science wrought? The atomic bomb, nerve gas, eugenics, sterilization, the holocaust, anthrax,... it's a long list. Both have good and bad things about them.

There are no absolutes in either. Both are huge volumes of knowledge and information which can be used to whatever ends by the men that control them. If anything is to be faulted, is should be the bad men that use both to their own selfish/evil intentions. Oh, btw, if youre main source of profound wisdom is a comic, I would venture to suggest that there is more in-depth information out there. :)

Here is a classic. The Science Editor of the New York Times providing reserved support to forced sterilization.

Aint religion or science that is the problem...it is people that misuse both. Which is to say, I agree!

Faith and science are piled on the exact opposite ends of the same plane, when in fact they are not. Ideally, people should take the good they can get from each, and just roll with it.

I think this false dichotomization and artificial polarization is a phemenon which is really damaging this country in multiple different areas. It is much more complex than two sides for most issues. Unfortunately, there are many who have vested interest in maintaining these artificial divides...Fox News or MSNBC for instance.

I like this guy's take on religion: “If scientific analysis were conclusively to demonstrate certain claims in Buddhism to be false, then we must accept the findings of science and abandon those claims.” - Dalai Lama XIV

I would argue that they belong on separate planes altogether.

The burden of proof is not on scientific analysis to prove certain claims in Buddhism are false, but rather those who make said certain claims about it.

One can't prove an argument using the absence of evidence. The atom was neither seen nor proven to exist and merely a philosophical concept as far back as Ancient Greece.
