Bike projects killing the pocket book!

and i blame all of you......

fortunately I saw that sweet-ass mo fo of a bike Highline yesterday so that humbled me; it is always good to see others spending more

soon i will need another project....

my weight weenie project is done.....lost another pound from last post (19.3 lbs as pictured with even lighter tire on order but basically done)

and i am starting to get pics of my other 29er.....it is getting closer; should be a week or so.

and let me tell you.....Sherwood (owner of Ventana) is THE coolest......as an example, not only did he pick up my cranks (pictured) for me when he was in the UK last week (since no US retailer) but he even made me a custom frame with a custom NAME (see the sticker to see what I mean). I love this company!

yeah I was talking about them Uk cranks. so are they stronger or what's the big deal w/them things? and if u get to pay whole sale thannn why dont u hook a brotta out manngg:bang:

2 rides on the fork....reallly like it.

love the lightweight
love the height of it (i prefer steep head angle on that bike)
and the ride seem very nice, but it is still rigid, but nice for rigid fork

Fo, please immediately remove the boat anchor XR and Nano. Both of those are in the 630g range.
At least put on some Ignitors which can save you up to 40g per tire.
Or put on some Karmas which could save you up to 100g per tire.

Then you can come back and report that you are sitting right at the 18.5lb mark.:beer:

My new El FoMandante will come shipped with Ignitors so that is good to hear.

As for Karmas, I am happy to try that on the back but it concerns me a bit on the front.....maybe I will just try it as a rear tire, and if the volume loops acceptable, will then consider the front but probably just the back.

By the way, after 2 rides with flats in 3 rides after trying the lightweight tubes, i have abandoned that concept.....back to regular 215 gram tubes. So intead of low 19s, bike is at 19.9 with regular tubes, nano rear, XR front.

the Maxxis flyweights, though some people have had them work, are just either too wimpy or I have really bad luck. They are 95 grams and boy did they look the part.

It must be all where people ride.
Madre has run the Flyweights at Friday's Nationals in Fontana, Sea Otter, the Cohutta 100 and not one flat.

yeah i know.....i am so very bummed.....perhaps i should give it another go...hmmmm

i never get flats, and in 2 of the 3 rides I either punctured the tire and tube (so actually, that one should not count since the wimpy tire probably would not have protected any tube) or had a blow out of the tube to where the tire bead left the rim (real weird)...

i think i will try padres suggestion of the slightly heavier specialized turbo. though if i read weightweenie listings correctly, it is still almost 100 grams lighter per tube than my normal bontrager 29er tubes (125 grams for turbo versus 215 grams for my bontragers, which i weighed myself).

the turbos are 0.6mm thickness and the flyweights, at 95 grams, are 0.45mm thickness. though only a 0.15mm absolute difference, a pretty big relative difference in thickness, at 33% increased thickness for the turbos (relative to the flyweights).

worth a shot.
