Big bear mtn / snow summit trail?

Has anyone done this one before?

What's the terrain like?

Do you somehow hook up your bike to the lift chair and just ride down?

I'm interested in maybe trying one of this "shuttle" trails sometime this summer. Can anyone else recommend any other DH shuttled trail? (Oh yea, i'm the newbie... and yes, maybe i shouldnt be riding at all, but i want to try it a few times; easy now...)

Yes I have done it before.

Terrain is apline forest with big boulders with nice views of the Big Bear Lake.

Take your bike to Big Bear, sign the waiver, pay the $10 or whatever they want, they will put your bike on the lift chair behind you and they will take in off at the top. Get directions for the GrandView Loop, it is easy fireroads back to town. It will give you an idea if you want more. Do it again or ask directions to the singletrack decents.

Pretty fun trails, but only XC bikes permitted on the lift, and no riding on Snow Summit property anymore. I believe the bike has to be under 35 lbs., 6 inches of travel max., and have 3 chainrings in the front.
 
Don't mean to go off topic, but thought it might be relevant to ask it here. I'm going to be up there in a couple weekends. I've never ridden in Big Bear. I only have maybe 2 hours to ride and don't want to take a lift. I want to be leg powered on the way up. If there's one single track that you'd recommend in the area, what would it be? I'm guessings around 15-20 miles worth of ride.

Grout Bay with Gray's Peak in Fawnskin.
 
did this a few years back (did not take lift) Climb up is no more challengin than anything in SA's (albeit at altitude). I think milage is what your seeking. cannot recall how long it took but imagin around time you describe. Cannot recall exact trail set i hit but think it may be grandview as listed above by dstep

The site actually says 6" minimum. Excuse my laziness, but is 130mm 6"?

another decent trail set - good call. Recall GB has minimal climbing but some fun twisty single tracl. Climbing all saved up for Grays peak.

Darn. Anyone know if they make exceptions up there? short by 0.9"
 
Summit Was Great While It Lasted...hope Mt. Baldy Will Get Things Going On The Right Track...
checked the summit site...6" max front fork...nothing about fullys... just a thought, if summit had more challenging and maintained trails do you think people would have cut so many illegal trails?

note: 150mm = 6"

2. Designated tire size must be less than 2.5.
3. Front shock must have less than 6 inches of travel.
4. Bikes must have three chain rings unless they are single speed.

I think that if that dude would not have sued them it would still be open.
I know the illegal trails did not help but they are not what got the ball rolling.
 
Does a bashguard count as a chain ring? I doubt I'll be heading up there at all this year.

I've been up there twice with my Enduro, 6" front and back, no problema.
 
I did this last year and I would definately recommend taking the lift up. There are some good trails up there......but I can't really remember the names of them offhand, the people at the chairlift should have maps available. There will be plenty of climbing to get back to the chairlift from most of the trails that are off to the right (when you get off the lift). You basically have to do some uphill road riding through town and you will get a decent workout from it. Overall I'd say if you're looking for strictly downhill with no climbing you're going to be disapointed. I personally don't have any desire to go back and do it again anytime soon unless they open up the downhill runs on the Snow Summit property again.
