Better of the 2 bikes for So. Cal. terrain? Help sway me!

The Norco range looks incredible! I've heard about how good Knollys are, but I can't get over how hideous the linkage looks!

Aluminum has a finite life. Every time it is stressed it weakens. After enough stress it will break like a beer can. I broke (fatigued) 3 aluminum bikes. Now I ride carbon.

And you attribute that to carbon vs aluminum? How about 26er v 29er? How about longer spokes? More lateral leverage? Your 29er will have a lot more flex than your 26er even if they were both carbon.

That said, yes a carbon version of the exact same bike with the exact same wheels/tires/components is usually stiffer laterally, or so I have read.

Wow, hes got me beat. That's some good stuff! @kriller134, I love the crosshairs, especially the way the neon green is laid over the matte carbon.

Carbon rules the world...I don't get the Knolly 4x4 hate (looks wise)? I think its a super looking unique design! All that said, it looks like the weight and beauty (kick ass beauty) of the Range with its full internal routing has me about locked in! I was able to demo a alloy Range from Cycleogical in Dana Point and although it was pretty muddy and a short ride, it gave me a pretty good idea of just how good the bike is!

Getting closer and closer, Range carbon framesets are shipping to dealers mid Feb. Wardens are shipping some time in March. Color choices for the Warden have changed a bit which leaves me with the choice of day glo green with an all black build, the Range carbon remains matte black. I had the privilege to demo the Warden BUT did it with a partially dislocated shoulder (going in this week to have it "reduced", OUCH!) so my ride was pretty limited, here is what I thought along with a pic of the demo bike next to my Rune and a day glo green Warden. I loved the Warden, it fit like a glove. I was pretty limited with my shoulder injury but I got a good impression on how well it works. The 4x4 was absolute magic with the DBAir, 100% legit. Climbing was a blast even with the CS off, I don't think there is a suspension design out there that tracks as well while tech climbing although my Range demo was a mud fest. I am stuck on the carbon Range as my 1st choice but this is making the decision that much tougher. The Warden has a much nicer "attack" position than the Rune and descending just feels lively and a flat out blast.

Don't get the Knolly. It's an aluminum bike.

Knollys suck - except for the way they ride. And their durability. And their customer service. But other than that, they suck. Oh, and their heritage. And their reputation. But again, other than that, they suck.

Why doesn't knolls come out with a carbon bike? We wouldn't have this thread if they just make a carbon frame!

Finally, I was hoping to see where someone knew something about bike materials. Carbons life is indefinite whereas aluminum with moderate riding has a life expectancy of approximately 6 to 7 years. Tortionally carbon is 10 times stronger then steel and twenty-five times stronger then aluminum.

True to a degree, yes carbon frames in general should out last aluminum. But while carbon lasts a very long time being a very stable material but the resin bonds the carbon together may not be as durable so getting a good quality frame with good warranty is essential.

Either way carbon frames are stronger and lighter, been proven many many times over.

I should mention cost. After buying a Reverb stealth dropper for the Warden frameset (Range frameset comes with one) the Range would end up being about $400 more, both come with DBAir CS.

That is a great video. Haven't seen that one before. If the Warden came in carbon I would probably have one on order right now.

That says a lot about the Warden (even alloy), coming from a guy ripping it up on a Mach 6!

I was wondering for a moment why your Rune's wheels looked no smaller than the Warden's, but then saw that you converted it to 27.5, considering things like those rims don't come in 26".

great video, and i was holding off on carbon because my bikes are always hitting the ground and everything else. amazing its stronger
