just got back from vegas. the only area covered in snow was towards the top of Mt. Pass just south of stateline on the 15. It was pouring out there. a few flooding issues there as well.

I couldn't quite see towards Boulder, so no official news of bootleg(too dark and cloudy to see). It seems that they are getting we are. Just a day later.

CWP and Marshall are closed for a 1 1/2 weeks as of today. Word from the park ranger.
So we hit the hills above our house along the side of Cucamonga Canyon was perfect.

Not Whiting Ranch it was Muddy as heck at the beginning. I took this pic at the beginning. After a bit it clears up but the beginning is pretty bad. It was cool riding over the running water that cut through the path in many spots.

Thread merged. Read the previous posts and you'll find that Sycamore in Riverside, San Juan Trail, Maple Springs hold up best. SJT will have muddy sections and should be given time to dry out. All OC parks will be closed for at least 24-72 hrs depending on amount of rainfall. STT/Luge gets muddy in some sections and best to let it dry out.

It's a "Sticky" in the Trailhead forum.

Sycamore Canyon in Riverside can be ridden in the middle of a rain. If you haven't ridden there call ahead and arrange for one of us at Jenson USA to give you a tour.

I'm hitting semi-paved/paved climbs around my place over the next few days...I've got the time off too and refuse to just sit around.

EDIT- That is if my sciatic nerve stops acting up!

The Farm in Wildomar as long as you skirt the canyon and ride up and down Edison mountain. The citrus groves hold up really well, and you can take a bushel home with you.

Orange Curtain must be left behind for good wet-weather trails.

There are actually several existing threads about good wet-weather riding. The usual suggestions are Sycamore Canyon, the San Gabriels, and Coachella Valley/Palm Springs area. The high desert has some good stuff, too, but I'm not as familiar with those routes.

Decomposed granite can generally be ridden in the rain. Clay is a nightmare. Lots of stuff in between. How many trails out there are entirely DG?

My experience riding on wet trails, where the soil is in between the above is that narrower tires with deeper treads and ample spacing between tread/knob tend to provide the best traction and do less damage. However, I have done some pretty dumbass riding in the rain many years ago and now I generally just don't ride when it gets wet.

    Road trip!!!!

This is usually the time of year my wife and I head to Arizona and Utah for epic riding and no crowds. There are many places that have conditions where you can ride the day after a heavy rain.

On another note, this is the perfect time to do all those projects that you don't want to do because you can ride. I'm rebuilding and revalving the Fox shocks in my truck today. After that, I'm going to get back to work on the tandem frame I'm building.

this is a great time to go through your drive train and do a thorough inspection of your frame and
have the shocks serviced, basically do all the maintenance that we do not get to if we are riding all the time.

I'll be going up there tomorrow...both Maple and Harding should be easily rideable in the rain. I figure climb Maple and descend Harding...park at the xmas tree farm. Well defined drainage, good base, compact soils...I'm not sure about Blackstar though...but after reading the sticky and seeing the picture...no Blackstar unless its had at least a few days to dry out the lower section.

Yep, Maple should be fine....I did San Juan once in the pouring rain and it was awesome...I liked it better than in the dry....absolutely thrashed my bike though.
