I might be up in the bay area (oakland) next weekend and was wondering whether or not I should bring my bike. Does anyone know of good rides around the bay area? :?:

China Camp is OK, not a long or technical riding, but fun.
Mt. Tam area, all fireroad, nice views, many hikers.
Annadale St. Park is the place to ride from what I'm told...

What do you what, a mountain bike ride or a quick spin in a county park?
I grew up in the bay area, if you have time head up to Annadale State Park in Santa Rosa, hour North of Oakland....it is the jewel of the area, nice Redwood Groves.
Tamarancho in Fairfax. Traffic in and around the Bay Area is as bad or worse than ours especially the 101 corridor.
The other trails mentioned are closer. The Marin Headlands just north of the Golden Gate Bridge has outstanding views, if it is not foggy, but not much of a mountian bike ride.

China Camp is pretty. Probably great place to SSpeed because there's no long climbs and it's not very technical. It's nice break to ride in between trees. Think it like riding the lower back end of Whiting Ranch.
If you're looking for a short ride near Oakland/Alameda. I think there's a some singletrack in Joaquinn Miller Park. You can connect to Redwood Regional which is next to it to add miles but is a bit boring because it's an all fireroad loop but the redwood trees and scenery are nice.

I don't know, I've only been to Norcal a few times with my bike, you gotta work more for fun singletrack, they have a lot more trails as hiker only it seems in their local regional parks.
If anything, I'd make sure hit La Pinata in Alameda after. Great Margaritas and food and it stays open real late every night.

Apparently they have Ales and Trails on Sunday but that would have meant I drive home tired. But somebody on mtbr offered to show me around Annadel on Saturday. Can't wait. :bang:

You will like Annadel, I used to live a mile away from there, (Rincon Valley). That was before it was a State Park and owned by the McCarthy Family. I went to High School with their daughter and we had free reign of the whole ranch. My old Schwinn Paramont took a lot of punishment out there....maybe that is why I like big wheels. Back then (middle 60's) there was four lakes now it is down to one lake and a marsh.
Ask them to take you up Richardson so you can get into the Redwood Groves and the Fern Grottos. Sonoma County, hot in the day, cold at night. It will be perfect riding weather as it seems winter is coming early this year.
