I planned on finishing the work on Bane Ridge in CHSP this afternoon. Before I left, I told my wife Linda of my plans to strap a rake across my handle bars and ride up there. She cautioned me to be careful and I said, "don't worry, I am just going up hill."

Once I got to the top of Bane Ridge I saw that it was pretty well cleared up there, so I headed down the first descent...with a rake strapped to my bars. #-o

Near the bottom of the first descent I started to lose control. I am not sure if it was the rake making my steering sketchy or if the rake caught on something, but I went flying.

When the dust settled my ribs were hurting bad, the wind knocked out of me, and my helmet had a dent in it. I looked back at my bike and the front wheel was taco'd. But the rake was still securely fastened to my bars! :bang:

The rake must have caught on something in the tumble because it turned my bars 90 degrees to the right. The wheel wouldn't spin and I couldn't straighten it, so I stashed the rake, strapped the wheel to my pack, and rolled the one wheeled bike the 1.5 miles back to my house.

I saw Mark (abuck55) on my way out. He had a nice laugh at my expense.

...now I am waiting for Linda to come home... 8-[

...and tomorrow it is off to get my front wheel rebuilt (with a Flow rim + Comp spokes) and buy a new helmet...and maybe get some x-rays on my ribs.

    I need a beer.

Glad to hear your'e ok and able to enjoy a beer.Next time you taco a wheel, and,if it's not folded completely in half or broken, try smacking into the ground around the entire circumference. It won't be perfectly straight but you'll be able to ride out of there.Did this once for a guy at Turnbull Cyn,and he was able to ride back to his car on 7th ave.from the jump area.- Lloyd

I am up at 3 am. My ribs and my hip hurt. This sucks. I am going to the doc when the sun comes up...

Ha! The only thing I did to finish the job was roll through the bushes. There is a rake stashed out there if anyone wants to work on the trail. PM me for its location.

Found the Flux online for $75. Jenson price match, here I come. Sorry Rick, they only have the black camo in stock! We'll be triplets. How cute.;)
