I noticed that in many places this year what a nice surprise...but it also seems like a less than stelar wildflower year.

It's actually early - as you recall we got alot of rain and its been very cold. This has delayed the growing season severely. Mustard is usually an early bloomer (February) and is now just coming up. I am hoping this is a good riding season in that the spring and early summer months will be rideable and when it starts to get hot in July, and the mustard is finally gotten tall, I'll find something else to do (like road ride) until Fall. Wildflowers will be coming up shortly... probably you will see blooms in May you usually see in Feb/March.

Absololutely NOT! (regarding Sycamore). I made that mistake last week, and was torn to pieces by the monster thistle! All I did this weekend was climb Northridge from Carbon Canyon to McDermott, and came back down. McDermott is not nearly as bad as Sycamore. Sycamore is a freaking torture chamber!

As is the bottom of Raptor (towards Chino). I made that mistake Saturday. Raptor is really overgrown and we actually lost the bottom of the singletrack and came out on the ultility road and the lower part is covered with tall milkweed thistle. Tore up both legs, arms and now have two flats! Sucks!

Rode up Sycamore yesterday and it was challenging fun to avoid the thistle. No flats, but I could perceive many opportunities for them.

How's McDermott for thistle? I want to show another STR rider around for his first Chino trip. I don't want to deal with puncture wounds!! Thanks.

Any new updates on Chino Hills? I called the Trail conditions number: 951-780-6222 ext 19, but all it said was that it was open and the date was May 19. I'm thinking of riding there in the next couple days. Thanks.

I was out there on Sunday and today. Rode North Ridge to Four Corners, Bovinian Delight to South Ridge, South Ridge back down to Telegraph and out.

First time on North Ridge so I don't know how it normally is........but today it was pretty clear.....some small sections were the grass is about knee high, but no problems. The first 1/2 mile or so there is quite a bit of thistle. The DH to 4 Corners is very grassy...again about knee high. Bovinian Delight is pretty overgrown....but it usually is......everything is 100% ridable. Also rode up Telegraph....road is in pretty good condition....no sand pits yet.....still some water crossings.

While climbing Northridge, there is a bit of overgrowth and thistle the first 1/2 mile like was previously stated. I would suggest to climb past Sycamore and go to McDurmott or further, then connect to Southridge via Four Corners/Bovinian or any other favorite route. Main point; stay away from Sycamore. The thistle is tall, thick and brutal.

I rode in from lower aliso wednesday and there are still 4-5 steam crossings. The thistle is super thick this year. Scully ridge is unrideable.

I rode up Sycamore on Saturday morning 6/11 and it looks like someone has taken a pass at brushing it back. It wasnt perfectly cleared, but very ridable in my opinion. Most of the thick thistle had been knocked down, though there were still a couple of pockets, but nothing a few more riders couldnt knock down.

I've ridden Northridge to McDurmott every week for the past few months. McDurmott is in great shape. But I usually cut off to the single track by the tower down to Four Corners.
