Latest recording is Dec 17. I wouldn't imagine it opening soon as the all the parks are closed due to some damage suffered or for muddy conditions. Here is the number. If you ride there often, add it to to phone.

Trail conditions number: 951-780-6222 ext 19

    From their website:

The Park is subject to temporary closures due to rain saturation, extreme fire danger or other hazards. Park closures are signed at the three Park entrances and Park status can be checked before traveling to there by calling 951-780-6222 x19 and listening to the recording.

Chino Hills closes longer than any other park. With more rain coming tomorow, I suspect it will be a week to 2 weeks before we can even get in to see what the damage is to the trails. If more rain happens in that time frame, well, see you there in February. Sucks but I'm used to it now.

In the heavy rains of 2004/2005 the park was closed for over a month- closer to two if I remember correctly. These rains were similar so I wouldn't expect the park to be open for quite a while. I'm sure there is extensive erosion on many of the trails and fire roads. They aren't going to open the park until the major fire roads are passable for vehicles, (emergency response, etc.). Who knows how long any repairs will take if repairs are in fact needed. 6 years ago there were 4 foot deep ditches/trenches coming down Southridge fire road. I would expect close to the same right now. Bottom line is I wouldn't hold your breath on riding there this month. Heck- even after the fire of 2008, the park was closed for about two months!

I sure it will be quite a while. Plus Edison is still taking out all the powerlines, which makes most of the good stuff off limits during the week.

I got back just minutes ago from walking up Telegraph Canyon. There is one fallen tree, which someone half-way removed between the time I first passed it and the time I returned. There's one washout that would prevent a truck from passing, and otherwise it's in nice enough shape if you're interested in riding Telegraph. There were several other hikers and riders, and there was no indication at the Brea entrance that the park was closed.

So I got back from SJT this afternoon, and there were a few guys parked on my street ready to go up CHSP (Brea side). I rolled down my window and said "hey, you know it's closed right?". They looked at me strange and said " oh, thanks". After parking in my driveway, and take my bike off the rack, I go to see where they went, and they were on their way to the trailhead. Some people, man...

That's ok......Santiago Oaks has been closed for a few weeks.....but one guy keeps posting his rides on Geoladders......even though he's been told each time that the park is still closed.

Sucks that there are people who think the world revolves around them.

Aw shucks......don't be too hard on him, he's probably also doing some trail maintenance everytime he goes out....you know, packing down the ruts, widening that awful single-track, short-cutting those annoying muddy switchbacks.....

It's primarily XC. If you start form the Brea side (enter at or around Carbon Canyon Regional), you have three options, Northridge, Southridge, and Telegraph. Our typical route is to climb Northridge, and connect to Southridge via Sycamore, Four Corners, and a few single tracks. Check Geoladders. There are quite a few options.

"Yes", hardtails are okay (and preferable for the Northridge climb).

The 3 main entrances are Carbon Canyon Park, Rimcrest, and Sapphire Rd in Chino Hills. Most of the riding is on fireroads with some scattered singletrack, so a hardtail is fine. I've done 6 mile rides and 24 mile rides, depends on how you loop it.

oops, looks like zioncoming79 beat me to it

Now that it's open, I'm going to ride Northridge/ Bovinian/ Southridge Friday morning, I'll get a trail report up afterwards.

Changed my plans, I rode this morning from the Brea side up Northridge, down Sycamore, Telegraph to 4 corners, and back out Telegraph. Northridge fared well, no new washouts or trail damage. Sycamore is a little rutted and torn up from the cows, Telegraph got the worst of it. A few small washouts, a big oak tree down (there is a go around) and some water crossings. A few must have rode when it was closed, because there are some rutted/ torn up sections. Thanks to everyone who respected the closures, and those who didn't and tore things up, may they get a flat and break a chain on their next ride. I'll try and get out this weekend and check out the east end of the park.

Is the downed tree on Telegraph going toward Four corners or away (at the Sycamore Crossing)?
