    Hi all,

I'm Dan. I've been on a couple of Floop rides with y'all, (I was on the BMX bike.)

I've been mountain biking off and on, (Mostly off) since '89 when I started riding the horse trails in La Mirada and up Rosecrans to Clark Park. Back then it wasn't illegal to ride the back ridge, (Or at least there wasn't any signage.)

I've had a few actual, (Non-BMX) mountain bikes
'89 GT Hybrid (Not a hybrid despite the name. It was a 24" 1x6 with BMX geometry and GT's gimmicky "Triple Triangle")
Mid-80s Specialized Stumpjumper that the previous owner had retrofitted with 1st gen Marzocchi forks.
Some entry level Diamondback that I used in Japan.

Despite living in Arizona, Colorado and Washington, I have only ridden off road here in North Orange County and Iwakuni, Japan. I'm looking forward to changing that.

Welcome to STR. When Dino pointed out your ride, I was SURE you were joking with us. I can't even bend my knees enough to pedal that miniature pain machine. Great job finishing up with us.

It always amazes me when I see someone on the northwest corner of the Loop on a BMX who came all the way from the court house.

I live over by Cal State now, so I actually ride from there.

The Thursday nite ride is a little hairy without a good light, but I plan to be there this Sunday again.

eBay LEDs with rechargeable 18650s work great for a light that's usually <$30

I understand not all of us can pay 10x the amount for a name brand product at an LBS.

They all come with an exaggerated mAh rated battery, and they can burn out if you leave them on the brightest setting while not getting a whole lot of air flow. Luckily, most of them have 3-5 modes of brightness which conserve battery and the bulb.

I recommend getting some sort of helmet light as well.

I'm guessing that was you on the BMX today as well:

That was me. I eliminated two HABs, (The dogleg end of Grissom, and the long climb on Castlewood,) shortly after this picture. Now I just have to get Little Wicked and the steep section of Kuttner.

I saw you stopped with the RD issue. What happened to it?

I had measured out the chain about a week earlier for a shorter caged derailleur. It totally slipped my mind that I would need to add a link or two.

Anyhow, riding up those rail road ties on the big rear cog + short chain + 8" of rear travel = broken hanger.

Thanks for stopping. I hope nobody was waiting for me and my buddy.
