I stumbled upon this site and thought I would give it a try. I normally just log all my rides in Garmin Connect, but thought the potential for this site was really great based upon some of the added features. So far for me the system seems to be incredibly buggy. I've tried to upload routes and have received errors that the route was created on a Garmin 205 when in fact it was on a Garmin 305. Secondly, large parts of rides disappear or don't upload. I'm just wondering if it's just me or if others are having similar difficulties.

Just an update on my original post. In less than 12 hours I have received two responses from their support team and they have resolved all the problems that I have been encountering. Needless to say I am extremely impressed by their customer service and encourage anyone using a Garmin 305 or 705 to give the system a try while it's still free.

Good to Hear,

I keep logging my rides on the wall above the urinal at Roscoe's, so far the only feedback has been from a couple guys named Gene and Craig that keep telling me they are looking for fresh meat to make a "sandwich" :?:.

I've used the beta version for some months. Besides logging your rides it will compute your power output and automatically find climbs in your ride and show your time and power on the climb. As you repeat your regular routes you end up with a database of power and time for every climb.

I did expect a better price break for being a tester.

They lowered the annual price to $29 for Beta testers. I agree that I thought it might be even lower, but at about $2.50 a month I guess it's not terrible. I have to say though, the price on a Garmin 305 with HR Sensor is a very good deal for anyone in need of a unit.

I think the two things that sets it apart from Geoladders is the automatic route analysis to evaluate and locate climbs and such. The automatic part is what I like the best since it extracts any climb data recorded and compares it to other rides where I've done the same climb. For example, I climb GMR all the time, but using different routes and overall rides, but the software is able to extract the GMR portion of any ride and compare it directly to all the other times I've ridden GMR. The second great feature is the power output calculator. While I don't have a power meter on my bike to compare exactly, it does seem relatively close based on the numbers I've seen in the past. Other than that, Geoloadders obviously has more rides and data available for download, but a bit obvious since it's been around for so long.

Any of you guys on Strava? If you are....

It's time to represent and join the Socaltrailriders.org climbing competition through Strava. You don't have to do anything other than track your climbs with a GPS unit and upload it to Strava. We are currently in 12th place versus the other clubs.

cheers!

P.S. If any of you want to do a club climb, hit me up.

Just joined Strava and the STR club.

Strava is awesome with how you can create segments. Best way to compare times that I have ever seen.

Stay tuned... I've been recording routes for some virtual stage racing. We will be running XC and Super D courses on a monthly basis.

I've really enjoyed Geoladders as a way of tracking my ride volume and moving up the ladder can provide some motivation.

As a training and analysis tool, Strava is hard to beat. The power output is such a cool feature, especially compared to the cost of a power meter like SRM cranks or a Cycle Ops hub. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but its close enough for my needs. The competition aspect of it, having King of the Mountain ratings, is a great idea. That will only improve as more users sign up and start uploading their rides.

One big difference in power readings of Strava computer powers vs. power meter generated powers is that I believe Stravas calculations give you an average, including time when your power output = 0. Power meter generated outputs (with the lightening bolt next to them in strava) exclude power readings of 0. Therefore, if you are comparing your values with a buddies who uses a power meter, his average will always be higher.

If you are always looking at the strava computer powers from your local rides on the same segments, you can compare the power values (unless one day was abnormally windy) and view gains in power, but the overall number might be +/-10% (not excluding times when power output = 0) and that is just a guess.

I know it's not nearly as accurate and there are no real time readings, but for purposes of comparison on a repeated segment, its great. I've always been somewhat curiuos what type of power I'm putting out on certain climbs. Now I have a general idea.

I got on about a week ago, awesome site. 2nd Place behind Mr. Foltz!

I like the segment and watts features. Even not totally accurate, they are better than the back of my shorts at calculating.
I'm bringing up the rear of the STR group, I think.

How about setting up some KOM challenges or loop races at Maple Springs, Aliso and or Laguna/El Morro? BTW, looked at your Strava and I have one question. How the heck do you get to ride so often??? I'm seriously jealous.

If you check out the "climb search" you can try and go after any of the KOMs that are out there. I've got a few hill climb contests that will be mixed in.

Things kind of got delayed from the storms. I had to re-record some of the routes to make sure the tracks were accurate with some of the rerouting.

I'm shooting for March.
