RR: Aliso/LCWP/Aliso
Met up with Von Skip, VonDork and Ken(t) this morning at Canyon Vistas for some good ol' fun s/t action. I'm sure most are familiar with our route and if you are not, I'll post it. Rode up to 5 Oaks and blasted down that, it was a little loose but nothing too crazy. It looks like someone had their way with the root that owned me a couple months back and that section is a tad easier now, just knowing that I'm not gonna snag my pedal on that thing ever again makes me feel good inside. The one thing that did hinder my descent was my leg armor which I had in my Camelbak, it is long and when going down the steep stuff as my pack slid forward the pads would come into contact with the back of my helmet, making it difficult to turn my head and what not. So, we make it down 5 Oaks without incident and head over to Cholla, climb up Cholla and unfortunately we didnt have a WHISTLER siting. Caught a minutes rest at the top then headed up to StairSteps. We padded up and Kippie was flirting with these two really hot hikers and even had them take our picture, I'm sure he'll post it in a bit. StairSteps was in great shape and everyone made it down without incident, we didn't stop to snap any pix on it though. We shot the sh*t for a minute while we took our pads off then bombed down the asphalt road to Laguna Canyon Road and headed towards LCWP. We signed in there then headed up Willow, everyone cleaned "the wall" and we took a short breather once reaching Bommer Ridge. Cruising along Bommer we saw a small Gopher or Garter snake and maybe one other rider, not too many people out on the trails we rode. Got to the top of T&A and padded up. Ken was the first one to hit the top huck and made it look easy. VonDork did it too, but went off towards the right side, which is better than nothing considering I didnt do it today. Kudos to both of them for hitting it. Von Skip and myself were getting ready to cruise down and heard a huuuuuge buzzing noise getting louder and all of a sudden a cloud of bees was flying by us, we nearly sh*t a brick and scrambled to get on our rigs and head down. The top part is its rocky/rutty self still but the grassy area where the trail forks off is really long and overgrown. Some parts it is tough to see the trail, but we all managed to make it down without any crashes and then we hit the play area. I was first to do the huck off to the right and after not doing it/riding the trail for at least a month i was a tad nervous but landed both hucks cleanly both times and managed to avoid impaling myself into the bushes at the end of the run out. I believe Ken hit it next and landed it just fine, then VonDork hit it followed by Von Skip who also landed all FIVE hucks he did cleanly, I think he did impale himself 4 out of the 5 times though, nicely done! We snapped pix of each other doing the hucks and Von Skip should be posting them tonight. Ken rolled the pile of rocks off to the right (if looking at it from the bottom), myself and VonDork did the rock-roll in the middle, which is heavily rutted on the left side once at the bottom. We then continued down the rest of the trail and cleaned all the insuing little rock patches here and there and made our way back to StairSteps for the almighty hike. The sun was out and it wasn't blazing quite as hot as the Average Homeboy does so we were in luck, this time the hike-a-bike up Steps didn't seem too bad. Of course Von Skip climbed and cleaned the area after the rocky section, well done guy! We then dropped the seats a tad, adjusted the suspension and bombed down Rock-It and came across three guys climbing it. Once at the bottom of Rock-It we hung a right and headed down Coyote to the main fireroad, hung a left and headed back. We came across Craig and his two young future STR members going for a cruise to wrangle some snakes. We chatted for a few, then were on our way back up past Cholla and to the trucks.
Very fun ride and I can't wait to see the pix!!! It was great meeting you Ken(t) and I forgot to mention that VonDork elected to climb Rock-It instead of Cholla.
