    Anybody?????

LAGUNA BEACH – A mountain biker was airlifted to Western Medical Center Santa Ana after getting injured along a trail, officials said.
The biker, identified only as being in his 30s, suffered a broken femur when he fell off his bicycle while riding on the Old Emerald Trail, said Capt. Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority.
Firefighters were called about the injury at 10:07 a.m., he said.
Fire officials sent a helicopter to search for the man, but were unable to find him for several minutes, Concialdi said. By 11 a.m., the man had been hoisted up and was being flown directly to the hospital.

I was hiking in LCWP this morning for almost 4 hours and I saw no more than 10 mountain bikers the entire time. It seems odd that there would be two injuries with so few bikers out. I did see the helo dipping into Emerald cyn.

Hope both injured riders heal up fast

I rode Old Emerald as part of my morning El Moro/LCWP ride today...

Somewhat ironically, I decided to "lay off the brakes" today as well :-k

The airlift was for my buddy, he was bleeding a ton. Kept thinking of Cedric Gracia's crash vid and thought that happened to my buddy. He had some deep gashes on his inner upper thigh and had a baseball sized lump at the gashes. Heli medic thought he broke his femur. My buddy said he tore some veins no broken bones and it wasn't his main artery.

Called 911 immediately and told dispatch exactly where we were. Oc Fire didn't know where old emerald was; fire trucks were at morro ridge and boomer intersection, chopper saw them and was circling them for 5 minutes or so; all the time I was on the phone with dispatch directing the chopper through her to where we were. Park ranger said to call them as they know all the trails and can coordinate with fire dept. Park ranger was upset that oc fire didn't contact them right away. Guys keep the phone number for the park rangers handy, response would have been way faster and more accurate.

Saw the rescue crew down on Highway 1 and Moro Ridge this AM. Wrong access to get someone off Old Emerald they should have been on Boat Road, Bommer or Willow. Many get confused between El Moro and Laguna Wilderness boundaries.

Glad for your buddy it wasn't worse, still sounded pretty bad. Wishing him a speedy recovery. Good advise on having direct numbers on hand as well

The dispatch number for CCSP and LCWP is 951-443-2940. They know all the trail names and know exactly who to send out.

In the winter u can bomb down old e n e falls but the transition to dry, rutted conditions from easier safer conditions makes us complacent... The trails change all the time....

esp true with chutes at Santiago...after rain chutes n summer chutes much different..

Bomb down,, be safe,, ride again...

Just a heads up, this number did not work for me today on Laguna Ridge aka t and a. I saved it the other night and was riding today when my buddy went down and hurt his hand and was feeling nauseous. I called them and told them that we were in Laguna wilderness Park on Bommer ridge and they told me that they didn't do the parks but were only for state but said I could call the police and Laguna. I then did a Google search and just called Laguna wilderness Park from the OC Parks website.

That number is for El Moro dispatch(State Parks), not LCWP.(OC Parks) The number for LCWP is (949)923-2235

It has always worked for me regardless of which park I'm in. I've used several times while on TAV duty. Maybe they changed their policy. In the past they would just connect me to the appropriate system. Thanks for the info.

They told me they could connect me to laguna police department but i figured that would turn a bit dramatic fast. All my buddy needed was a lift to his car he could get a lift to a hospital and i didnt want him getting stuck with a helicopter bill. Calling lcwp was great though and volunteers who picked up were very knowledgable
