Just thought I'd forward this on. $49 per year to cover the cost of an air lift, which can be in the thousands even with health insurance. http://www.district37ama.org/forums/showthread.php?t=50407&highlight=Omni+Advantage#
I just followed the link and read the thread. I have PPO insurance and I am also a AAA member so that means I will get a $10 discount and can get this for $39 per year. Also, this does NOT provide any coverage in NV and UT as I read one of the post toward the end of the thread. I have not done any out of state riding so this will fit my need for now. Thanks for the info!
What if "Air Methods" is not the company used for transport? Are they the only air transport service, or is there a possibility of another transport for which you would be liable?
Don't assume that you're not already covered... I'm with Kaiser. My policy states that if the medivac is necessary, they pick-up the entire tab.
That is a good point. I know Mercy Air or the SB County helicopter were the only life flight helicopters I ever saw out in the area where District 37 holds it's desert races (and I saw them many times). But based on their coverage map, this plan may not be very beneficial for some. http://www.airmethods.com/omniadvantage/coverage-map
I work for this company and have for over 20 yrs and there is a lot more to the billing process and different insurances. AMC has over 400 helicopters and not all are in the Omni coverage. AMC does bill your insurance company.
Called my insurance company a few months ago, medically necessary airlift is the same co-pay as an ambulance. $100.00 I even used a mtb accident in the back country as an example. If your insured, check before you buy.
If Omni is not the first responder what do you do wait for them to send a chopper. Most evacs I have seen have been done by local Sheriff copter.
