I got out early Saturday for the Agua Chinon & The Sinks exploration day at Limestone Canyon. This ride begins on the opposite side from most Limestone events, off of Portola at the end of the toll road. I started right at 8 AM with the intention of getting far ahead of all hikers so I could ride trails as fast as I wanted, but they apparently let people start early. To make matters worse, they had a separate hiking event of about 30 which started at 7, and I of course found them.

This is probably my least favorite ride at Limestone as it is so limited. It starts with a long fire road grind with an extremely steep climb in the middle, sort of a mini-Dreaded. Not fun climbing, but a high speed blast on the way down.

In the past, all that has been available is riding to both sinks and no singletrack. According to the official OC Parks map, Lark Spur is now open to bikes, although the official trail signs still say no bikes. I checked the map that morning, so rode it based on the map. I definitely chose the wrong direction, as it was mostly climbing with little downhill. I will ride it in reverse next time, which should be much more fun. I will hit it next open access day.

Box Springs is not usually open for this event either, but there were no signs blocking off the route like usual, so I took that as an invitation and went ahead and rode it, LOL. I have the KOM on Box Springs Singletrack and The Limestone Plunge out there, so wanted to see if I could take any time off. I did for the latter, but not the former.

Fun but not great. I will not go out of my way to ride this too often in the future.

Box Springs Singletrack ... not my best effort, 9 seconds off my KOM.
