I love the wind. Just can't get enough of it. Of course living in Sandy Moss we're protected from most wind events so when we get some I turn into a little kid. Add that to the front that blew through yesterday dropping some snow and the first thing on my mind this morning was a quick trip up GMR from the house.
Some of the lower switchbacks had enough wind to blow me UP the hill. From there it became a steady 15-20mph breeze but one still had to be careful coming out of a turn. Couple of times I got caught off guard.
Anywho, to the top in great time. Shot a few pics on the way up and at the top. The wind was blowing so hard at the top gate it sounded like a jet engine.
Going down was the slowest I ever went. Started out fast but only took one shot of wind at 30mph to make me think twice.
The views made it all worthwhile. Check 'em out:

Nice photos. I make that ride at least every other week to get some climbing work in. Saturday's seems to be the worst for motorcycles and cars so I try to avoid that day.

Saturday is the worst. GPD has also been up there quite a bit lately. I had maybe a dozen motocycles pass me. Most were taking it easy due to the unpredictable wind.

The moto's just wait till the cops leave. They post people on East Fork, GMR, GRR and have everything covered. Then they start the races. My son knows a couple of the guys and they have a good network going. They post where the rides are going to be and assign people to take turns on point. Funny, there have been moto guys being pulled off the mountain for weeks straight now but it doesn't look like they can stop them. There have been some serious accidents there too.

Nice photos, but it looked better in real life, today. I was going down the backside of GMR this afternoon and it was amazing. Big headwind. I was going even slower than usual (if you've seen me descend, you know what I mean) but grabbing the brakes less than usual.

Good job braving the elements, Jeff.

I've seen that a couple of times. One time it was a band of teenage kids on those little mini dirt bikes. They were bouncing along the bottom section pretty good. Back then the canyon bottom was a lot less groomed than it is now.

I wanted to ride GMR today, but when I checked the weather at midnight and saw that there were 20-30mph winds with gusts up to 50mph, I bagged that idea. The pictures are beautiful, I need to get up there soon! :)

Rode GMR to baldy village with my bro's. The wind was insane and I froze my balls off. Great ride though.

5 miles to the village. Who's idea was this?
