I thought this thread was going to be about OMR at first glance.

    Nice videos!

Great GMR video, thanks! It's on my list to ride, but I've heard reports of some crazy drivers up there. What's been your experience?

The only thing more boring than riding the SART is watching some ride the SART.

I've been riding up there since 98 and had only one dope buzz me in a car. Not going fast, not racing so I think he just wasn't paying attention. Mid week traffic, you may encounter 3 or 4 cars. Weekends maybe 10. Few motorcycles but with the cycling traffic up there nowadays, I do believe that they are very aware that they have to share the road. The day I made the video, I got passed by 4 cars and all slowed dramatically and went wide when passing. I do move to the side when I hear them coming so I think that helps.

I have read plenty of fast car danger but I rarely see it. At times there have been clubs up there but the law chases them away. I have been up there when patrol cars chase them down. One holiday they also had a chopper patroling as well. Honestly I don't see the problems I've read on the forums which imo may be rides posting what they "heard". :D

Ha, that's funny. I find joy in all riding, tandems, MTB, road, trails. So you're unable to find fun in a SART ride but your life is so boring that your idea of fun is criticizing another rider's material, sounds like a personal problem, time to grow up dude. ;)

I only know them as GMR west and GMR East. One DH trail and one more XC/ all mountain trail.

Hm, I've seen videos of Monroe Truck Trail but that's about all I know up there. There is the one near the flat section of the 4 mile point climbing GMR. Maybe that is one you mention.

I have an MTB partner who rides the mountain often. I'll have to ask him about those trails. He frequents Sunset Ridge. That was tough climb.:D

I've done Marshall cyn, Potato Mtn, also a trail in Monrovia (Truck Trail?), SkyLine across the divide in Corona. Cool ride but too far. I'll have to check out the single tracks you mention.

Wow, that brought back some great memories from my roadie days! GMR was my favorite climb AND descent in SoCal, and your video provided the easiest ascent and safest descent ever. Might have to dust off the road bike and drag my fat butt up there..
    Thanks Mr. Beanz.

Ha ha ha!:D I you haven't been up there in a while (couple years) you may be surprised at how many riders are up there now. Back in 98, a bud and I would ride to the village and see maybe 3 riders. Now, I see maybe 20 in the first couple of miles depending on the day adn weather. Holidays, forgettabout it.:D

We've had groups of 10 riding up and been joined by gobs of riders. On the 4th of July, there was a group of about 100 at the gate.

Drewster!\\:D/ Dude, haven't seen you in the longest! Yup, still riding. How about you?

I need to hit GMR a whole lot this new year. Thinking of Doing Ride Around the Bear again. Only way to get in shape is to hit GMR. Let me know if you want to go up the mountain with me!

Yup, new camera. Go Pro 2. Nice resolution! :bang:

BTW, did you know that Robert died? Brain tumor then after he recovered, he got cancer. On his way home from treatment, he passed out and hit a tree. Sad, very sad!

That's why I stated "depending on the day and weather". Not many riders are going to take a chance with a threat of rain. Not to mention many are more than likely busy at the malls shopping.:D

We did a forum ride years back where it poured all the way back form the village. The descent back down GMR was scary and cold (29 degrees). I know I don't ride it if rain is in the forecast.

GMR is a beautiful climb. I did that L'Etape du California ride a couple years ago and trained on GMR leading up to that ride. Beautiful area and nothing like it in OC. Makes you feel like you're riding a Tour de France stage. And the cars aren't a factor--you hear the few cars that drive there minutes before they're anywhere near you and can look back and make eye contact with the driver and make sure they're not texting or drunk.
