Not yet a roadie but want to get a road bike . Looking at the pictures answered a few of my roadie questions.

one it's ok to ride with a visor on your helmet.

Two it's ok to ride with a camelbak on a hot day .

three it's ok to ride in mountain shorts .

Four it's all ok if your riding with the STR

Great ride report great pictures .

Fat mountain bikers make for really fat roadies. Be glad Chewy didn't decide to sport the lycra...

    Good job gents.

haha...definitely okay for a STR road ride. But i think you'd get some strange looks showing up to the como street ride in Irvine in baggies and a camelback! :)

I usually do the Santa Ana River trail from HB to Corona and back ever Sunday. Wished i could've joined you guy but I was in SF running the SF 1/2 Marathon. Is this going to be a weekly ride?

I would not mind making it at least every 2 weeks regular ride. this way we can change up the ride location or rest every other weekend.

I had a great time but I dropped off at the wedge. What I though would be a 1 minute fix turned into borrowing a tool from a passer by.
But I didn’t have time to do a century anyhow and I’m really glad I didn’t try. For some reason I had incredible pain in my shoulders and feet for the last 10 of a 55 mile ride.
I’m wondering if my pain had anything to do with diet, not being fitted, camel back, 20 mile hammer fest for the first 20 miles, or maybe even my age (45).
    Any tips are welcome.
I’ve only been doing road since Nov 08 and I was very impressed by the folks that were doing it for the very first time. It was my first time riding in a group and the speed and communication skills were very impressive.
Oh yea, that monster that pulled us to the beach was very impressive too. I bet he would do more than 130 miles if given the chance.
Anyhow, thanks for a great time with a great group of riders.

~when my shoulders and upper back start to fade out I like to place one wrist on my lower back and push the same shoulder forward. im not sure if it really streches anything but it seams to help out.
~also try sitting up and riding with no hands for a few seconds every 20 min or so.
~try tilting your right ear to your right shoulder and then the other side as well this helps keep the neck and upper back loose and relaxed.
~I also try to strech out my legs every time we stop and regroup or get water.

I'm impressed with the numbers but really disappointed that you rode to the beach, clearly a target rich environment and the only pics are of guys in lycra :?:

    I'm just sayin'...

It was fairly early and not as target rich as you might expect. Targets must need their sleep.
The TdF pace hurt, but other than that it was good fun.

I felt a little sore on Sunday, but still felt like I wanted to ride. Really wanted to go to the beach, about a 20 mile ride, but due to the lack of sunscreen on Saturday I did not want to spend that much time in the sun. I feel really good today.

    Gulp. Great job you guys!

DavidB and i met up in the REI parking lot on Friday for a road ride and we both headed into REI after our ride. I went in to look for some chamois butter. I couldn't find what I wanted so I decided to head home before I was tempted to spend money, and I left David to peruse the lycra shorts in privacy.
I think I hit the nail on the head with my prediction of 3 road rides until he would bite the lycra bullet! :bang:
