    Education is key.
It would also be great if we had environmentally aware racers. Maybe we should stage trash cans from the base of MS for the 1st quarter mile.

    They would still miss it.

This is exactly how I felt several times and it is what spurred the Trash For Cash contest....Maybe it time for another?

They might miss but it might centralize the trash into little piles.

    I don't understand the question.

Most riders are conscientious on regular rides, but races ("timed-events") are a bit different. Everybody's on the rivet and taking in food and drink on the way out of the aid station. Easiest way to deal with it is to have someone walk or ride up the trail after most of the riders are through. I've done that from the Holy Jim parking lot to the start of WHT/Trabuco, and picked up gel wrappers, coke cans, whatever. I think its a good plan to leave any course cleaner than before the event started.

I would be surprised if there were many folks *intentionally* littering. It's more likely many were bounced/jostled out of pockets... or accidentally/unknowingly dropped when a second/third gel was retrieved from the same jersey pocket later in the ride.

From my experience as a trail user - there seem to be sooo many gel wrappers that people are just being slobs. That's all there is to it.
Just got back from Sea Otter and there were literally hundreds and hundreds of gel wrappers on the XC course.

This was the first time I used the GoPro for a event so I kinda forgot about it, I was more concerned with what was going on with my ride than what was happening on top of my head. I captured all of the start, the climb up Blackstar and across Main Davide to Motorway. Then while going down Motorway the battery went dead #-oI knew if I didn't touch it I might have some life in it for the end luckily it did. So here's my short clip of the first 1/3 of the 2012 VQ/CC and just a little bit of the end.....

I agree with you. It still only takes one bad apple... What i do is have one empty pocket in my jersey for all the trash from the food i consume while racing. This also makes it easier to get the food out rather then reaching back and fumbling around through trash. I agree that its disturbing for a bunch of people that supposedly like the out doors to trash them so bad!
