    Post CC impressions:

Wtf was that finish?! I loved and hated it. All I heard was "follow the cones"... and I did... straight through a river. I did, however, feel extra hard core.

Absolutely perfect weather. Race highlight: the "electric orange" sunrise about 1 hour into the race, looking over the ridge into the Riverside valley, after emerging through the top of the clouds. The far-off mountain peaks were cutting the sun rays in multiple directions.

Great course prep by WS, thanks again.

How come no finish line pics?

EDIT: Got a cool shot of me just before the "WTF" moment... following the cones just behind another guy having the exact same thought.

The finish and the flys have to go! Although it was kinda fun riding through the creek, the water and sand did a number on the bike, which I has managed to keep fairly clean through the whole CC. And the climb out of the creek was no bueno. I am sure there was a reason, but it would have been nice to just ride along the side of the road over the bridge. But overall, another fantastic event by the Warrior Society. Thanks!

Tinker's time 5:10 - Are you effing kidding me? Holy smokes that is fast.

Congrat's to all that attempted and finished. The expressions on many of the finisher's faces (and their comments) were priceless.

Two of the top 5 finishers are 45+ years old. Pretty impressive.

That finish through the river was crazy but fun at the same time, I finished the VQ in 7:01 on the rigid fixed gear. My legs and triceps are worked
    Awesome race.

I'm the proud dad of my 17 year old son, Kevin who finished Vision Quest today. His time was on track till the HAB up West Horse Thief, which killed him, but he recovered at the top, ate some food, rested, and finished strong. Waiting for results to post, but I don't recall seeing anybody younger out there today, so he might be the youngest for today's race.

Thanks to all that gave him encouragement on the ride and at the rest points. Quite a few of the ladies said they'd met him and ridden with him for a bit.

Pitted for him at aid station # 1 (Maple Springs) at 2:39, then did support on the final leg from West Horse Thief/Trabuco Trail down to the finish. Hung with Keepswhathappens and Barry for quite a while waiting to meet up with him (us and the flies and honey bees!) at WHT/TT.

Fun to ride the last 7.5 miles to the finish line with him. Something I will cherish for many years.

Great weather for the race and another fine job of putting on a major event by the Warriors Society.

This was a huge accomplishment and goal for him.

Now if we can wake him up, we'll go out to dinner to celebrate!

Proud Dad (today especially) - Jeff

Had a tremendous day today, did the CC on the SS and PR'd it at 6:45 was the highlight especially considering the new Baja 500 finish which I thought was kinda fun, other highlights include the course and weather, Bombing down UHJ, climbing Blackstar in the Dark and watching the progression of lights...

low-lights trying to wash the mudfleks off my face at In-n-Out and realizing they were fly bites....I have about 20 on my face, and 50 bright red ones on my arms....other lowlights... Complete fail fall in one of the stream crossing in one of the deepest sections (self fulling prophecy) and completly submerging me and the bike and loosing my Garmin with my PR on it all in one ...oh well....

Wouldn't trade it for anything. (more detail later....maybe)

    Thanks Warriors!

EDIT: Lost Garmin, let me know if you found one, not sure it was in the creek.

Yes I have similar fly-tatoos! Overall it was a great day I have to say. Creeks were deep - at least up to my knees in some.

    Nice meeting you today Bvader.

The county said we would need 2 full time sheriffs to man a road stop if we used the road over the bridge at $3,500.00 for a minimum of 10 hrs. If we did what we did, cost nothing.

Finished my first VQ and on a SS. My goal was to finish and I'm so glad I can finally check it off the list.

    More details to come.

Thanks to Warriors and all the volunteers!

Great pics, as usual. I always get at least 1 magnet print. I'm going to start an aging-through-bike-racing timeline on my fridge.

Thanks for the pictures Eric. I plan on visiting your site!

Diito on the flies. They were the worst at the start of UHJ. Sorry to hear about your Garmin. I'd be pissed!

Thanks again Warrior Society & Volunteers. You guys out did yourselves again! The "Baja Finish" was a bit crazy but I dug it. And the finish line placement was great! Mucho Thanks!!!

Great day of riding. Second VQ ,shaved 30 minutes off last years time. I contribute it to my new HT. Sorry Gene I jumped ship. Great to see you as a crossing guard.
Loved all the mud action, cold deep creeks felt great. Flys on WHT sucked. Fell in a super thorny bush on UHJ and I just saw the damage on my backside.
I highly prefer the new finish btw. Much better then the old one.
Thanks Volunteers and WS. See u at the Traverse. :bang:
