PACKET PICKUP WILL BE @ ROCK N ROAD IRVINE on Weds. May 11th from 5-7:00 PM

Thus is info that should have been included in the emails you have been recording from the Warriors Society.

So I just received an email that Upper Holy Jim will not be in the event. I'm very bummed about this to say the least. It would have been nice to receive an explanation.

From the email that was sent out today:

    Course update:

As you all know, Black Star Canyon Road has not been repaired so there are several sections of the road that are very narrow so use caution. Also, we decided not to include Upper Holy Jim as part of the course.

Hey Gene, I hope this had nothing to do with the previous posts in this thread!

+1 bummed that Upper Holy Jim is out. Now I wish I hadn't spent time scouting it and riding it as part of my training... still will be a fun event, although I am also curious why it is being removed. I was on it days ago and it is in great shape... and one of the pay-offs I was looking forward to before the suffering started again on Wall, part II.

We do not have enough support personnel to man the top of UHJ and also at the bottom so they turn left and not right. We also need to have personnel at the top of LHJ for those who don't not make it to the cutoff and directed down LHJ. Instead, the top of UHJ will be taped off and marked so you continue on the MD. The only support personnel will be at the top of LHJ for the cutoff point and sweep the riders down who do not make the cutoff.

FYI: UHJ was something a few WS members wanted to add, but since THEY don't do the event, it shouldn't matter to them. Frankly, I wanted to keep it the same as in previous years and I'm glad it is again this year. This will be my 5th and probably last.

Thanks. Still bummed, but makes sense that if you don't have the manpower, it makes it difficult to have major course changes, particularly as UHJ is easy to miss if you don't know what to look for. At least from a training perspective, the ride up to UHJ isn't wasted effort in training for the endurance aspects of the ride.

I thought it was possibly due to the expected winds.

Those winds are going to make a long hard day even longer and harder.

What weather station is that forecast for? I'm not seeing any sign of wind in the local forecast. Haven't watched the news though. Basing this off Weather.com and local OC cities

Very reasonable explanation. Having some idea of how many people it takes to run these events, I appreciated the fact that so many people volunteer as it is.

Wasn't it only the last two years that UHJ was not included? I thought before that it was part of the Traverse. At least that's what the Geoladders track shows.

Yes, upper holy jim is in that route. If you zoom in to the right of the peak (sort of on the right side of the W), you will see a loop of road that isn't highlighted - that is main divide. The sort of straight line with squiggles in it that avoids that part of the road on the highlighted route is upper holy jim.

So, no, that is not the correct route.

    Try this route:

From 4 Corners to top of Motorway is only about 6 miles.

Gate will probably be open. It has been open for the last several weeks.

When you drive past the forestry station on Silverado Canyon Rd, there is a sign indicating whether the gate is opened or not. The CNF website has not been updated.
