Anyone else heard anything about this year's Leadville yet? Just received the lucky email this morning, I'll be out there August 14 (with my girlfriend on a mountain tandem).

I think the tandem registration gave us an advantage, there were over 12,000 applicants this year.

Ok. So here's my idea. We need to set up a pool.

Where on the ride does Jeff's girlfriend realize precisely how crazy he is? (Or, when does Jeff have an Exgirlfriend stoking? ;) )

    I've got a buck on mile 73.

Denied as well, unless we want to spend $1250 on the CTS camp!

Wonder what changed this year? Anything you did last year that helped get you in?

Hello from a VERY snowed-in Washington DC. What better to do than think Leadville and summer time? Anyway, for those of you that made it in, here's a little project I'm running.

As some of you know I did a lot of analysis of previous year's data (that I
could find) from Leadville 100 MTB races. I've been looking for some new fun
stuff to try in my efforts, so I thought I'd do a couple of things.

First, I've set up a simple Google Form to allow anyone that wants to add their
info into the form (all fairly benign data and definitely not to be used for any
spammy BS). If you'll enter your data, I'll map it to a Google Map that should
give you the ability to start to see who is in your area for training, support
or questions. This, of course, doesn't negate the great value from the
historical information on this group or the information sharing that will surely
    start today through early August.

You can find the form here: http://bit.ly/9WodRs (Shortened URL to help keep it
    manageable--Google's URL is ridiculous.)

If you add your email address (not required) I'll send you a link to the map
once I get it integrated to Google Maps (need data first). Hopefully this will
help to normalize some of the data that's out there and also allow for some
increased quality in training and camaraderie.

Second, there's a ton of data that swarms an event like this. Both before,
during and after. The medical folks from the University collected a lot of data
last year. I never saw the aggregate output, but I sure would have liked to.
So for those of that do sign into the form, I'd like the option to be able to
send you another link at some point in time to help me collect some info. I'll
never publish individually identifiable data, and no names will be collected,
but I'd like to collect, analyze and publish some of the more interesting data
if the group's up for it.

Totally open for suggestions here as this is "side of desk" work for me, but I'd
like to see some more quantified info come out of 2010.

If you'd like to get in touch with me personally, please feel free to reply here
or shoot me a message on twitter @degroodt

Good luck to all that made the first hurdle. See you in Leadville (one way or
    another).

I think with the little movie that came out about last years race, it increased the number of entries into the "lottery" greatly. Last year I had a 3 friends who raced in 2008 but did not get in last year.
I think for the most part it's who you are (Lance, Manny, Carmichael, Weins will always get in even though they enter the "lottery") and they take into account how many times you have done the race, I have a friend who has done it 8 years in a row and gets in every year.

I might get flooded, but here goes.
A few weeks ago a friend of friend was selling a Leadville rego. I declined as it is way beyond me.
    Anybody want it?
It'll take me a couple of days to find out if it is still available.

We're pretty excited! Thinking about moving up to Running Springs or somewhere at elevation to live for the summer. Escape the heat and build up some surplus red blood cells.

    Here's the weapon of choice...

I've only done one 100 mile mountain bike race and I think I'm still good. That was the hardest thing (physically) I've ever done. A couple of guys I did that race (Brian Head 100) told me Leadville is even more demanding. I have no false pretenses of ever earning the buckle but I do find myself wishing I could find the time to train and getting an opportunity to ride this race.

Apparently the Leadville organizers do not allow transfer of registration - and they take it pretty seriously, as evidenced by federal charges filed against two women involved in the 2009 race!

Didn't know that Waldo, but heard two weeks ago that he's gonna give the race a go. Good luck to the sucker!

PS Noone has asked me about the reog anyways.

PSS On another note, a buddy of mine some years ago borrowed someone's # for a half marathon in San Diego - he won the women's 40-49 age group! Ooops!
