I believe this has to do with a rider's mindset. If I know there are 10 more miles of riding to do, I will suck it up and keep pedaling. And if I can't pedal, I will hike.

Case in point, have you ever found yourself mid-ride, completely exhausted and still a few miles from your car? Did you sit down and ask your friends to pick you up, or did you "man up" and make it back to your car? I'm willing to bet that once you got back to your car you swore that you could ride no further. In all reality though, if your were another mile away, you could have made it.

Tbowen, if the forest opens as scheduled in November you should be able to pre-run the course and see if you make the cut off. No need to wait till March to find out.

I hope it opens up in November, I actually like riding on the Main Divide. I know from the past 2 years of the event if I can make the cutoff. :)

I actually think I will make it this year, but I'm still doing the CC.

:clap:I'm with you Rach, manning the checkpoints is such a gas... it's far more fun to support and encourage the riders than riding. Love to see people, especially those doing the CC or VQ for the first time, extending themselves and finishing .... it's not the end but the journey that makes it worth while.

Good luck to all participants ... don't know where I'll be on the course, but will be there cheering you on!

Last year I went to the finish area to support peeps and I said to myself, "I am doing this ride next year.". Of course I was probably 5 or 6 beers deep at that point so my inner voice was beginning a drunken stupor. I don't trust it.

I am thinking CC but my fat ass needs to train.

I am in for VQ this Year. I did the Traverse last year and finished (Barely). I learned that I need to ride a LOT more in the months previous to the event.

    I'm wishful thinking/dreaming

i'll give CC it a shot, if you do a train ride on Novermber, i'll join you and see if i can make the cut-off. If not, I'll be on the cheering squad. Or do Rwanda.

If you finished the Traverse this year, you may want to give VQ a try. I had a much tougher time at Traverse than I did at CC.

The CC isn't that bad. Just put a good beer in your back pack and after you make the last cut off relax for a bit and then cruise to the finish. And I mean a normal 12 ounce beer that's about 6% or less.
