This was a great event. I had never done a mtn bike event before and had no idea what to expect. What a blast. The course was not severely technical or insane climbs. All the guys in the photos passed me at one point or another and none of them knocked me off the trail. Very good sportsmanship and I appreciated it. This greenhorn will definitely sign up for part 2 in September. I can't wait to see more photos. There was also a great sense of community with the local bike shops represented. Nice work.

What a great race! The course was super fast and very dusty. Some good climbs and descents and fun singletrack. Racing first time on my SS was interesting, especially on the flats where I was basically spinning. But overall I thought it was a great race and it very fun. Def looking forward to the next race.

The race sold out at 300 riders and was a great success! I was the course marshall flag man on that off camber hard right turn that would dump you in the lake if you made an error. How many of you took a spill (there were many) on this turn cause I saw everything. :-k Also to your dissapointment, no one went swimming tonight. Good to see all the smiling face on the dirt. Looking forward to the next one. :bang:

I was doing so well, front of the pack, feeling good...

    ](*,)](*,)](*,)](*,)

Broke my chain, did not finish. #-o

First time I've ever broken a chain on a geared bike, only done so once ever before (on the SS). Not the best time for something like that to happen. I only got to ride the first half of the first lap. :(

Saw quite a few STR folks racing and spectating!

Great course! A really good XC course, nothing too easy, nothing too hard. I didn't have a chance to pre-ride anything, so what I did ride was all new, and it was a great course for riders and beginners.

    My mini RR:
I raced Sport 1 (Men 29-under), and my only complaint was the bottleneck a couple hundred yards after the start. In a pack of 40 with the horrible dust, you couldn't see that the cones were set up to funnel everyone into a turn, so a couple guys went into the cones and crashed taking a bunch out with them. I avoided this barely with a guy laying next to my wheel, got ahead of most of the group and was doing very well until my chain snapped. What I did ride was great, I felt good, saw a ton of singlespeeders out there today, the heat got to me right away though. How was it so hot at 6pm?! I'm still feeling the dust in my lungs which was pretty bad today. The singletrack the course folks made was pretty good too! I broke my chain on a pretty cool hill on the other side of the lake that I heard a couple spectators call "pretty fun to watch" because there was zig-zags of racers going up and down. I was the guy sitting in the middle of it trying to fix his chain while most racers came by at least twice. I did however walk my bike through the finish as Nan aka Dusty was finishing her race with a smile! Almost made her crash while doing so though LOL

Every race I've done has been the same way; carry two co2's, a chuck, a tube, and a powerlink. Today the powerlink never made it to my jersey and was sitting in the back of my car where I left it. #-oI was surprised how many people don't carry one while racing. :-k

    I will be back!

I didn't stick around much longer after I came through so i'm not sure what happened at the venue afterwards, but from what I saw it appeared well run, good vibe, good place to ride, the course marshals knew what they were doing, results were supposed to be up within minutes of everyone finishing, etc. Thumbs up from this still grumpy racer.

fun event and a great turn out. my lungs still kind of hurt from all the dust being inhaled the entire duration of the race. I will be there for the next event in September.

Don't know if it's been posted, but they are changing the date to September 15th for the next race...

Had a lot of fun. Decided to pace myself for the first 2 laps. Felt like a lot of people passed me but it payed off on the last lap. Made a lot of ground on the big climb on lap 3. Saw DavidB with a broken chain after only the first lap....bummer! Can't wait to see the results. Rode S1 and felt like I was middle of the pack.

as usual........ dB FAIL!!!;) That reminds me to put a power link in my jersey for the next race! I probably don't put out enough power to snap a chain, but being a clyde, anything is possible......#-o

I was really surprised at the amount of people who asked if I was ok :bang:

I was really surprised at the amount of people who don't carry a powerlink.

Wouldn't have mattered much, the chain snapped in two different places, so I would have needed 2 of them (thanks again Nan for one of them!). Plus one of my cassette cogs went caput. New parts time!

I had a blast, really didn't see anyone fall but my wife got a pic of the aftermath of one. He was okay, getting some work done by the EMT.
