    Counting Coup filling fast!

I just saw Chris Vargas this morning at Switchback and he told me as of this morning at 9am, 34 spots for the CC are already taken and 32 for the VQ. That leaves 66 spots for the CC. At this rate it will fill before the weekend. Once the spots fill, the registration will close. Still time for the VQ, but it always sells out. If you haven't registered yet, better hurry.

haha! Most of the spots seem to be from here on STR!!

Hopefully everyone else has signed up. If I think about it, I'll post it up on MTBR also; don't think it's been mentioned.

Also, WS hasn't sent out an email about registration being open, AFAIK.

Peer pressure is a be’och. Signed up today:bang:. Came up with just about every excuse I could. "It is during LL Baseball season……….won’t have time to train………. bla bla bla."

My friends called me a CAT ;) and told me to sack up.

Made up my mind to do the CC on a SS again (this will be my third time on a SS). Let the fun begin!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd like for one of you experienced endurance racers/riders to help with this question: what are the pros/cons of SS vs. geared during an endurance event? I'm aware of the general pros/cons, but are there any major advantages/disadvantages? Just curious on everyone's opinion...
    Thanks

the one that really bites is IT WILL BE HARDER ON THE SSer!!:bang: like painful and tuffer to complete. U will have a hard time going fast on the downhillsS and making the cut off times will be a little difficult iMO8-[

but hey dont listen to me. I'm one of the nuts that tried the VQ on a SSer for the first time. (didnt finish but it felt real good to @ least Try)

well forgot to mention that is harder for most regular types like my self. But those hardcore PRO monkies can really get down (and up) on them hills!!:bang:(maybe even easier for them b/c they dont 2 have carry all that extra gear stuff:lol:)

Personally, I think that the only peeps that compete SS are those that ride SS all the time.

The amount of mileage and climbing alone is crazy, and on a SS the hills can't be easy. You've got to love mashing to make it... not to mention that if you gear for the hills you'll be spinning like crazy on Trabuco toward the finish line at the end ;) I was spun out on my 1x9 with 28T chain ring, but that's aight... I made it up most of the hills with it also!

If you feel like trying SS, go out and do Blackstar - Motorway, and then try climbing up to 4 corners from Maple Springs. If you can do that on your SS, change your entry.

If you get up to Beeks and want to turn around on the SS, I say go geared

I'm leaning towards HELL NO for the SS... just wanted to hear what people have to say about it. The only advantage for me would be the hike-a-bike section: if I'm going to be pushing a bike up a hill, it'd be easier pushing my 22-lb WUSS rather than my 33 lb geared!
Still, I think I want my granny with me on this one!

up to Beeks on a SS is cakewalk or ride compared to what happens after Beeks...Not saying that it is easy but when compared to the climbs on the Pain Divide..:(

I need a smaller ft CR... Currently running a 34 not going to work on the PD

Hey Queenwill, this is really good advice. Go out and ride sections of the course on the singlespeed and see. Especially the Main Divide from Beek's to Motorway and 4 corners up to Santiago Peak. Granted, I'm sure most mortal ssinglers walk at least parts of the MD from Beek's to Motorway.

I'm debating doing the Coup on my single too. I've ridden most of the course on my singlespeed, but doing it all on one day on a ssingle is huge. Plus, I think after climbing all day, I'll be tired and wiggy I'd like gears and 4" rear travel coming down upper Holy Jim and riding that rough road to the finish.

But hey, you do have lots of time to train between now and March so go for it!
