OK pre rode the course and have to say there is nothing about Rim Nordic that is harder than this course other than altitude. The dam climb puts me in a place I do not want to be. I'm in for a tough ride that I'm not in the right shape for. I've been training and been in short fast races all year but now that I think about it I haven't rode longer than 3 hours in months. I'm good for 3 fast or slow laps and that's it.
I guess I'm going to be the turtle this race not the hare and hope for the best

Lack of training and being sick all week is putting me behind the 8 ball. Don't think I can even pretend to race this time......maybe jan.

Might rain Thursday. Let's all do a little rain dance and hope we can get a little water out there before the race. :?:

Rain Thursday would be perfect! It rained the day before the race in January and trail conditions were perfect. I'm dancing right now. :bang:

This mean your 22lbs Scalpel will be available for demo? That bike hasn't seen much dirt time. I think it needs a good 12hr shake down. I'd be happy to help.

As much as I don't want to do it I am going to have to switch a 32t chainring from my 34t on my SS. Was fine on the damn climb sunday for two laps but I think after about 5 laps it is going to take its toll on me.

I am not really training at all for this 12 hour race. Just going to go and do it. But I do a lot of miles on the road. Probably at least 200+ miles a week.

Suffering the creeping crud. Started training with some long(ish) commuting miles. On the second day of commuting felt a roll of dimes between the thigh and groin - not the usual chapstik tube:lol: that lives there so I went to the doc and he says "no bike" for 4-6 weeks. Swollen lymph nodes. Constant annoyance and will get worse if rubbed :-k. So I'm out. Bought my entry in July. Doctor says lymph nodes need to shrink. Sucks. See you all in January! Does anyone think Jason would "raincheck" this race for the few of us with valid medical excuses and let us use our $ towards January??? Jason are you out there...can you hear meeeeeee...

I don't know. At Rim it took me about 21 minutes to get up to the fireroad. Same thing at Vail to get to top of Damn Climb. Difference is Damn Climb allows you to just cruise in middle gear. Rim was painful on that last bit with the steeper gradients. I guess to each his own. Chalk hill can get a little tough. Maybe I'm just more used to 13 minute-ish climbs doing so much riding in Alios and Blackstar.

Ride fast, pop wheelies in the pits, do kick-outs on other teams awnings, and make fun of people walking the downhill sections.
...oh wait that is my game plan.

You also got to get right on the wheel of the person in front of you on the singletrack and push them to go faster till they crash. This is especially useful at night. I should know it was done to me at the first one

My first race was the January event. I found the event really chill. Yes it was a race but people were supper cool. If someone wants to pass let them. In the end it is not going to make much difference. Pacing will be key. Do you have someone to help you in the pit?
