There was a big slide on CA-2 a couple weeks ago. A section of mountain, 100m X 150m, buried the whole roadway. The photo below was from yesterday (12-MAR-2019), view is from the Mt. Wilson Road. They have not made much progress, since it is a very dangerous job. The slide can be bypassed by using Angeles Forest Hwy and Upper Big Tujunga Road.

Interesting video about the machine used to do the cleanup:

The slide is almost clear. Road should be open soon. In the process of digging away the debris they opened 2 springs on the mountainside. One was flowing rather copiously.

    Was it due to rain?

Yes. That side of Mount Lawlor basically 'filled up' like a huge water tank. When the soft stuff near the surface got saturated and heavy, it slid. One of the two springs has stopped, the other still flowing but diminished. Highway is basically clear. I...um...heard from a guy that rode past there 2 days ago...ahem...that both lanes are now visible, and they appear to be preparing to install slide mitigation netting.
