Hi all, new here, new to SoCal actually. I was watching this video and since I am in Irvine I thought I'd try and check em out sometime. But I am not sure exactly what trails they are or how to get there, I have a guess but if anyone knows's specifics I'd love to hear it.

Thanks in advance all, happy trails!

    Jim

The trails are located in Laguna Beach/Aliso Viejo at Aliso Wilderness Park.

I should also mention the trails in the video are widely ridden, but technically not legal.

Be forewarned, every trail on that video is illegal. That is, they are not authorized trails and use of them is subject to fine and bike confiscation. The good news is, that doesn't happen. A lot of local MtBers have maintained an uneasy truce with local park and wilderness officials to keep the trails somewhat underground. The interwebs and Strava have dramatically increased traffic on those trails, airlifts and conflicts among trail users. The first one in the video is extremely well known and is ridden as a shuttle run all the time. Many corporate MtB shoots are filmed on that trail, and it's not uncommon to see world class pros on it in winter. All of the other featured trails are harder and more secluded.

There are great legal trails in Laguna that will give you a taste of the goods. Look for Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park and try out Rock-It, Lynx, 5-Oaks and Car Wreck. and maybe venture over to Mentally Sensitive (it's near the last trail in the video). You can also drop down Stair Steps (you will need to push back up it, eventually) and go across Laguna Canyon (133) to Laguna Coast Wilderness Park and look for Rattlesnake, Lizard and Laguna Ridge. Those are the three legal fun drops on that side - but they are pretty far from one another. Please don't venture onto illegal trails (obligatory PSA).

It's pretty interesting now that many of the trails on the down low used to be single tracks, but now some of them are as wide as fire roads. I guess with the advent of these ultra-capable trail/enduro bikes, far more people try to ride them then back in the day.

Not to mention advertising exactly where they are through STRAVA, YouTube and other social media...

And even worse than that, is seeing how much faster everyone is compared to me on Strava!
