Just when did an all-mountain, road & XC bikes sky rocket? My last bike, wheels and all was a Kona Stinky Deluxe in 2011 and it was $2700 out the door and that was lil' high, but it was a year-ender closeout price.

Now I'm looking at regular mass produced 7005 aluminum all mountain bikes with that 1x11 and they are tilting at $2300-3100. The carbon versions are like 3500. and up. Boutique brands are even more, but they've always been high.

I'm looking at a full carbon, hybrid bike and its $5100. (weighs 18 lbs) It has full XTR but whats weird is that my paycheck hasnt gone up as much as the prices of good quality bikes. Is it the carbon fiber that bike companies love selling or is it because we have to pay for the new technology? its out of control

The price did not go up, the value of your dollar has gone down. Remember that 50% of those dollars were invented from thin air. That works here, after all your paycheck is in dollars, but not anywhere else. In real terms the bikes are actually cheaper since productivity has increased, but alas not here in our "real world"
Happy trails on a high $$$ bike.

Me: I am happy on my low end bike. It gets dirty almost everyday.

High end road bikes have been more expensive than high end mountain bikes for years. It's not unusual to pay $5500 for a carbon Pinarello frame / fork. Now that carbon is gaining popularity with mountain bikers, we are seeing mountain bike frames creep up to $3000-3500 range. That would put a high-end build at $7500-8000 range, which is getting closer to road bike brethren.

LOL. Not really, more like supply and demand. A lot more MTBer so they can jack up the price way up cause people will pay for them. Same with Road bikes I see a lot of posers around town in full gear biking a bike path thinking they are lance armstrong and buying 10k+ full carbon fiber bikes to ride around town.
Look at dirt bikes you can get top of the line KTM for $8000 compared to a MTB with no engine and nothing complicated at all.
Also Americans are not saving at all I read on the news over 50% of American's have less than $1000 to their name:
