I know... I get that; but there is a real difference between doing technical trails adjusted to one's experience and someone doing hard jumps without little or no experience and the right technical ability... something will happen. I just hope with my post someone thinks first of their family and not of themself...

You have no clue who Andy was, so get off your fucking high horse and don't speculate. Who the hell do you think you are? Do you even know what happened? Were you there? Do you know Andy personally? If not, then don't be preaching what you know nothing about. Andy has been my close friend for 25 years and he doesn't take risks. It was his 3rd and final run on the Westridge trail. He most likely forgot about the step downs due to fatigue or just having too much fun and left the ground. I've ridden with him since 1991 and he walks down a lot of stuff and is very cautious. His family was always his priority. He busted his ass the last 12 years to make sure his family is financially secured if he were to have gone first. This is the reason why I don't frequent forums anymore. Because of bullsh!t like this.

Coolbreeze, I am sorry for your loss and for the families of both people who died recently.

Your description of what happened makes it sound like he did not intend to be airborne and did not know how to control the bike when he was. This is kind of what biknpam was saying.

No, that's not what she was saying. Reread her post from previous page. Her intro pretty much calling one of my best friends as irresponsible and selfish......after he had already lost his life. She has no right to judge him, or anyone.

The entire conversation about the dangers of mtn biking should probably have been in a completely separate thread from the accident discussion. I understand why you are interpreting her comments the way you are but I interpreted her comments as expressing concern about our safety that was not being directed at anyone in particular.

"Hope it was all worth it for him to try...". That's directed toward him. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. Black and white. Nothing gray to misinterpret. Straight forward.

    Sad news indeed. RIP Andy!

We are all risk takers whether we admit or not. The minute you step out of your comfy home anything could happen. Unfortunate accidents like this really put life into perspective for me. I hope the family gets the support they need. Good to see some conversations in the forums again.

Coolbreeze, I am sorry for the loss of your friend... the point of my posts were to say to everyone, when there are young children at home, not to take risks (my intent was not to call out your friend but to use this horrible circumstance to make a point). It is so sad and tragic to leave young ones too soon. This happened in my own family and I know how the children have struggled to grow up without a father. I remember the story of the rider who decided on his birthday to do an epic ride along main divide and they found him frozen to death... he took an unnecessary risk... he could have waited until another time when the weather was better. He also left children at home.

I skied for many years... I always knew those last runs were when the worse injuries occurred as you get tired and it gets cold... its a tragedy Andy kept going and I risk your anger and the anger and scorn of others to step up and say... think first before risking everything... while it's good to know he left his family financially secure just in case, his physical loss can't be replaced by money.

BTW I understand risk taking... I have now 5 mos off (could not work for 3 mos) after an accident on the bike. I can only hope after I heal (doctor said at least 6 months), I can return to riding again. I did something stupid and fully accept the responsibility. Hopefully I learned a lesson and next time, won't take that risk...

I also am glad to see some little life here... my intent was also not to cause anger or discord. I am really sorry and so very sad to hear of yet another death... I really don't want to hear of another one... saying what I said is the one way I hope will stop any further tragedies...

Since you love passing on "wisdom" let me give you some.....You should've just stopped right here. No need for all the other BS you threw up in your post.

My sympathies to the families of the fallen. As someone who ate shit up there this year, in what is described by my surgeon and PT as a horrific accident, I understand how easy it is to make a split second decision and lose control of the situation. I have only myself to blame, but do appreciate compassion.

I concur 100%. That was nothing short of hypocritical bullshit. I have so much to say, but I'm going to bite my tongue and move forward from this so I can continue to celebrate Andy's life and all the great memories I have of him. Biknpam, you need stop worrying so much about what everyone is doing and focus on yourself and your family. It is obvious that there are some open wounds that you need to deal with and you should tend to them in a different manner. If you feel the need to preach, then use yourself as an example and not someone who you know nothing about. You have no right to use MY friend as an "example" of your past and personal mistakes in life, however, my advice to you is to just don't do it. Andy wasn't out breaking the law or trying to do backflips. He was out enjoying life with his friends and made an error in judgment of the terrain. Everyone lives their lives by their own set of rules and beliefs, so don't be so quick to judge. That's what makes us all unique individuals. In addition, you know nothing about his wife and mother of 4 kids, so don't discount her and assume that she can't handle raising them by herself. Mindy has a master in Child Psychology and teaches numerous kids in addition to her own on a daily basis. She is very strong individual and has plenty of support from family and friends if needed. So, go handle your shit and stop coming on this forum trying to handle everyone's shit.

maybe i should quit my job and not provide for my family in fear of being shocked, arc blasted, fall to my death, be crushed by heavy machinery, suffocate in a vault, be burned alive, be engulfed alive in a dirt trench, get sliced and bleed out, be decapitated by a winch….on a daily basis. I know its not the same as a recreational accident, but just sayin.
