Sick of the lowest ATT Uverse prices, where it's now up to like $55/month total. That's their lowest speed (6 down). I've looked into DSL Extreme's "True Stream".......but that is $28 PLUS you have to lease their modem/router for another $6.95....for a total of $45.

Yea, it's a savings of $10, but I'm really not sure it's worth the hassle over $10/mo. Is there anything else out there? I don't have a land line, so DSL is out of the question....it's gotta be fiber, which I'm sure leaves me with only ATT or DSL Extreme (suspect both are really using ATT's network).

Seems like a lot of $ every month for basic internet.

thought of that...but between Netflix and Crackle and Youtube (I use that instead of cable/satellite)......I go through 300GB per month or more. So.....not an option.

I did find Time Warner offers internet only service. 2gbs for $12/month or 6gbs for $24 a month. They want another $8.00 per month for the modem....but you can buy one on Craigslist for $50. I may go that way.

$55/mo for internet is just nuts.

Since I have a home office and write off my internet costs. I use Cox Preferred, $49.50 a month, Cox advertises the service at 50mgs. During off hours I will get to 65mgs. I have used Cox since they bought @ Home like 15 years ago and I have never been more than a few hours without service.

Here is a speed test I just did during peak internet use.

wow! how is ATT charging me $55/mo for 6? I guess I just need to call and tell them I'm looking. $55 is crazy.

edit- just checked Cox....no service in my zip.

Some day we will not be held hostage by 1 or 2 providers....and true competition will rule. Who knows when that is though.

TWC, $44/mo. I am on the ultimate 100 upgrade. Just ran a test and am at 30mbps over my wifi. Have had them for years and have always been happy with service
Another benefit is they have hotspots all over the place and you can access any of them when you are out

I used to have uverse, but after speaking with two retention managers I decided to cancel service. Since then, I've tethered off my T-Mobile plan & getting about 35Mbps download speeds on LTE. Surprisingly, it's much faster and stable than the uverse I had for 2 years.

Though the tethering is limited, I've never been throttled or sent a text when I've gone over the limit. My household regularly uses about 50-80gb a month. I think it may have something to do with the APN settings on my phone, because my wife is on the same plan and as soon as she passes 5GB she's redirected to a webpage to upgrade her plan.

I've been doing this for about half a year now. As soon as I get those T-Mobile warnings or webpage popups, I'm probably gonna go to time warner.

$24 a month for Dsl extreme. Fast enough for me and gets the job done. Got rid of cable/sat long ago in favor of antenna TV. 65 channels many in HD. Watch maybe 4-5 channels and whatever I can't get on the tube I can watch online. But rather be out riding anyway.

I have Uverse and when my plan went to $58 p/mo I called up and asked why. I then said lower my bill or I will find a new service provider. They signed me up for 12mpwhatevers for 12 mos for $35 p/mos.....in 12 months I will repeat the process

It worked for me only once. The second time they (two separate retention mangers) kept on pushing me to get a bundled plan which was north of $100 per month, but I'd have the same speed internet for the same price I was paying. I kept reiterating to them that what I was paying was already too much. I asked for internet only, and they said the promotions were only available to new customers. At that point I told them to just cancel my account.
