Anyone who has done trail maintenance doesn't consider OCFA's less-than-precise use of a blade AFTER the ground is completely dry as either trail maintenance, proper access road maintenance/construction, or adhering to the AQMD's strict requirements for dust control...or else they'd have a water truck rolling before and after the blade.

How much silt gets into the streams and ocean after a disaster road grading that did not need to happen. But stop mountain biking because of the trail damage and erosion.

I totally agree with you on this Dean, this is a perfect example of how Much they really don't know what they are doing. What they need are people that are payed to maintain the roads and trail system network who do know what they are doing. People who have a solid understanding of how a trail should be built, maintained, as well as providing safe egress conditions for first responders using the fire roads. These people should be dedicated to the community of various users of the trails. It's not that hard to figure out folks. This all should of been figured out by now, but their heads are too far up their own asses. Even a real active community of volunteers can't duplicate the amount of work a payed employee could produce in a 40hr work week. This is why trails are being closed, and outside companies who don't know shit are building trails with heavy machinery. I say less Chiefs and more Indians...

My favorite dirt road in an OC County park was Mustard (in Whiting) before the Santiago fire. That thing was all rutted up, with small landslides here and there. In other words, a dirt road with character; worthy of the "wilderness" park designation. At the same time, easily navigable by quads, 4X4's and other rough road emergency vehicles.

It takes an agile imagination to consider these wide, flat roads through the middle of our parks as "trails.." But if they are, and we're supposed to be able ride them, their maintenance should be held to the same standards that apply to those of us working single track. In other words, don't work on it unless you can leave it in better condition than when you started. And better condition doesn't allow for leaving tread loose when it started out firm.

I did include in my TAV report to CCSP a "strongly worded" section about said work.

I heard back a few days ago, apparently the road grader is "a new guy", which seems to be adding insult to injury

they continued with, "I haven't been back there this week, and now am kind of afraid."

Obviously beyond their control, but still, a totally ridiculous situation...

The new guy excuse has been used before...bogus! Where is the supervision if indeed it is a new guy. Does not OC Fire tell OC Parks when they are going to do road work? It seems like the answer to that is no. The problem can be fixed with a water truck and a few passes with the water truck and the loose soil will be compacted. Not hard to do. Fix it before someone gets hurt...or wait for the pending lawsuit OC Fire created the unsafe conditions. It is well known that MTBing is a authorized activity in the park.

This is another technique I'd like to see discontinued. Inexperienced riders descend into a big, abrupt water bar and promptly fly over the handlebars.

I am interested to see what "maintenance" they did to the trail. Sounds like I need to ride it this week. :)

Hooray! That's awesome. They've just doubled the amount of legal singletrack in LCWP. (Slight exaggeration - but not by much). Let's hope this is a harbinger of things to come. I agree with BtP - Laurel Canyon would be great. Also, MC. Dare to dream. At least now there is a good legal way to loop to Camarillo and Stagecoach and climb back up willow.
