Yet Another PCH Fatality...Hit and Run Driver Not Cited

    Thanks for noticing this. Good to hear at least charges were filed. Penalties don't sound severe enough though.

    I sure hope this picture prevents the "I didn't know I hit someone" defense. A four-year maximum sentence sounds so pathetic.

    The serious crime is the hit-and-run. It is intentional and indicative of an evil heart. It is the same thing regardless of whether the victim died or got a monit scratch. OTOH, the accident itself was no more than simple negligence, again regardless of the outcome. Now, if the driver was on a cell phone, drunk, etc., that would be a different level of culpability. I'm ok with the charges and penalties.

    The status quo isn't working. Until there are more consequences for killing a human being, people will continue to choose "simple negligence" over driving safely. That is a fact, proven by history. Nobody should be ok with that.
